I wonder if it is the case that if the USA's IP regime gets so oppressive it starts violent demonstrations, I wonder what our violent dystopian wasteland could be?
Will we have a future where the IP Exec's offices are stormed by mobs of angry young people wielding lethal force and murdering shareholders, board members and CEOs? What would such a future look like? Will we have the government executing citizens for IP related offenses? Will we go to war with countries over IP?
I decided long ago, to never have kids. Kids aren't worth it, and this is a horrible world to raise kids in. Every time Slashdot has something on the subject of kids, its some horrible and obscene shit that makes me wish I was never born. This company should have the book thrown at them. So do the parents.
I don't see why the linux32 wrapper could not be altered to work with ARM the way it does with 64 bit Linux. Wine and a few other things like Flash won't compile on anything other than x86_64. But my 64 bit Linux Box doesn't know that. I don't see why it could not be different on other architectures, Arc or PPC. Something doesn't work on ARM? Wrap it in linux32, problem solved.
Canonical and other Linux players need to take steps needed to make certain that the Linux that the netbooks ship with is not some bizzarely broken configuration. A netbook that ships with Ubuntu should ship with the same Ubuntu you find on the Ubuntu installation CD. No more of this "Custom distro crap".
One of the reasons I use Linux is that it is a secular operating system. I have bad experiences with religion and I have a problem with religious organizations tainting Linux and the secular philosophy of openness and transparency.
Religion is pro-censorship, pro-dogma, and the antithesis of everything that the Linux movement stands for in my opinion.
You can still get "Tunerless" VCRs and DVD Burners. They take Component and Composite inputs and will record whatever they see onto DVD. But they really aren't able to control the box any.
I consider the DMCA to be one of the most unjust and cruel laws the USA has. I sympathize with the people doing this to the following limited extent: If you are a subscriber to a service, you should be able to use any compatible QAM enabled equipment you wish.
This is a little different because people who violate the DMCA like this usually are doing so to secure their fair use rights. These people just wanted to outright steal the service. So thats bad. However, two things.
Why are police involved in this sort of thing? Well, really, although in theory, violating the DMCA is a civil action, but around 2003, the government decided that all copyright infringement was criminal. Because the Intellectual property 'scam' is all that the US has against the Chinese, the US has decided to criminalize copyright infringement to create laws to fight the Chinese with.
The DMCA needs to be repealed, but I don't see that happening unless there are large demonstrations. People are generally too stupid to care. (I really would like to see anti-DMCA slogans with people marching by the millions.)
Idiot. AUI Trancievers are 15 pin adaptors so you can install your own connector. Usually it was a connector for an RJ-11 connection, but later they made RJ-45 ones. Early Cisco routers like the 2501 had nothing but a bunch of AUI ports and you had to have an AUI to UTP (Unsheilded Twisted Pair) to connect them to anything.
A 16 bit ISA Card will still work, the 16 bit edge will hang off the back of the slot. And it will limit what the card can do. But it won't really matter.
You need to upgrade the RAM to 640 KB. Generally Radio Shack has some SIPPs you can add to the motherboard to add the last 128 KB.
You will need to find a Double density 3.5 floppy drive with a Card edge adaptor. This will allow you to use double density 3.5 floppies in the computer. (High Density will not work.)
You can network this be getting an 8-bit NIC that has a BNC and AUI port, then adding an AUI to UTP tranciever, but you can't use DHCP with it. The WATTCP stack for Dos will require a static IP.
If the video card is in an ISA slot, (and some times even it it isn't.) get a 16 bit ISA Trident VGA Card. This will give you VGA, EGA and CGA support. You can then plug the Computer into a standard monitor.
Almost all of the leaders of the planet Earth act like mobsters and criminals that are above the law because they are wealthy and above the law. The US is no exception. It is very very rare in the history of any country in any part of the world to find a leader that was not a monster. No matter who it was in any given time in any given place.
This is why Wikileaks is necessary. Try and imagine a world where every secret of every government in every part of the world was known by every citizen. Governments should be accountable by the citizens that allow them to be there and thats not the case today. The world is full of unaccountable Tyrants.
I am not willing to pay for a game that I must pay in perpituity to play. I will pay for a game ONCE. Only Once.
MMOs are scams in this respect. You don't have a single player mode. You can't NOT play the game on line. (I would have Bought WoW had there been a way to either:
1. Play a single player RPG not on line. 2. Play on Servers that are not owned by Blizzard on independant networks/LAN.
Pulse Audio is a bloody disaster. It breaks just about every audio application I have, and even when its not running, it creates over runs and under runs in other ALSA and SDL audio applications (like ZSNES). ALSA, and SDL audio was the perfect sound abstraction system. Pulse Audio screws EVERYTHING up. I have to makle my own patched RPMs to get rid of Pulse Audio hooks in applications. Its bad. Its really bad.
Audio applications should use ALSA but not lock the card. Games should use SDL. Everyone else should follow suit.
If an application is locking a card its the drivers fault. Fix the driver, fix the over runs, and ditch Pulse Audio!
Please, Please Please fix the Bind LDAP SDB Backend to allow LDAP Integrated Zones to Dynamic update. LDAP zones are useless right now because DHCP can't update it!
Something I've always loved about Mandriva is that it can use Kerberos to disseminate packages and streamline installations in a LAN. Not to mention this new version adds an LDAP schema to urpmi meaning you can control urpmi repository configuration through LDAP.
Now this is what really caused me to almost shit myself when I saw it. Mandriva is coming out with something for their corporate line called Pulse 2. Pulse 2 allows for the Cataloging of the installation of applications on other Distributions of Linux, AND Windows. Again, also centralized by none-other than LDAP.
I don't like Evolution, but I DO like Kontact. I think Kontact is BETTER than Evolution OR outlook. But it has to have superb XML-RPC, and GroupDAV, and iCAL support
I critisize Linux all the time, and I try and criticize it for very good reasons.
Let me give you an example.
The most wide spread Groupware Suite that is freely availible in the Linux world to challenge Exchange that I can see is eGroupware. eGroupware is an excellent suite in my opinion. Now. Linux has three dedicated Groupware Clients. Kontact, which is part of KDE-PIM. Evolution, which is part of Gnome, and Thunderbird.
Now. To do anything with eGroupware other than E-mail you need XML-RPC.
Kontact has XML-RPC Support, but it has a nasty bug where if it becomes De-Synchronized, it will respawn the same events on the Calendar over and over.
Evolution has no XML-RPC support. You can rig up GroupDAV
Mozilla Sunbird has no XML-RPC Support.
What does it say about Linux's productivity-ware when two of the three Groupware clients produced by Linux developers cannot communicate with its intended native Groupware servers?
Samba doesn't implement vFAT, it implements SMB. So Samba has nothing to do with this.
However, F/OSS could have a huge fight on its hands. The fact is, that everything uses vFAT. Nobody really supports anything else. The Linux Kernel has a vFAT module in it. Microsoft could say the vFAT Module has to be removed from the Kernel. If M$ Does, then, the entire Linux population is infringing. (Face it, we all HAVE to have FAT.)
Let us hope Samba does not replicate this with its SMB2 Server.

Kinda a scary thought.

What the fuck are parents thinking? Seriously.
Include Component Cables, or S-Video cables. For that matter. Include S-video and Component Video Jacks. I don't like HDMI.
People are stupid and willing to get screwed. Its that simple.

This is a reason why I want to be able to do LDAP based zone updates.
Repeat after me: Death to DRM. Terminate all instances of DRM in all cases. The user's content is the user's fair use. Resist DRM until death
