  1. I've installed Solid to see how that looks. A decent ad-free file explorer is worth a couple of bucks to me.

  3. I used to use this, because it was the best out there... but these days, and with all the pointless (to me) updates, I am close to removing it.

    I'm sure the devs are going to be all broke up that you stopped using their free app. What a loss.

    I have an idea. Don't like the ads? Buy the pro version. Don't be a cheap ass.

    A more appropriate comparison would be Tesla not wanting to sell their cars to Canadians because of a deal with Ford and me having to go to the U.S.A. to buy a Model 3 while lying about being American.

    It's not stealing, as no one is being deprived of property. Stealing is not "getting something for free", but "denying someone the use of their property". I hope you understand the difference.

    People are deprived of income that would otherwise be earned from the sale of the content. Call it what you want. I hope you understand the semantics. Yes yes, "but they wouldn't have otherwise purchase it!" ya BS. A non-zero number of people that pirate content would pay for it. But I suppose you are deciding that number is low enough that it's okay to deprive them of that income. If you argue that the number is actually zero, you're an idiot.

    Study after study have shown that "pirates" spend above-average amounts on content consumed.

    Links? I expect at least 5 from institutions I've heard of before, since there is "study after study" that should not be hard to come up with.

    So true.

    I tried to buy a Tesla Model 3 but you know what they were back ordered until next year. I just stole one instead. It's my god-given right to buy shit and if anything stands in my way I'll just take it, because I can. My rights to have shit now trumps any interest of the content creator or the publishers / distributors they entrusted to monetize their content.

    People probably don't donate because they know none of the revenue would go to any of the content creators.

    You are funny. If people were concerned about the well being of the content creators they would not be visiting TPB in the first place.

    If you currently have, or ever plan to be employed, do you hope to receive compensation for that work? Same thing. It's far from free to operate Youtube. Far FAR from free. Thousands of employees. Acres of real estate. Data centers. Hardware. Legal.

    Youtube is ads, and subscription now with Youtube Red. That how videos are monetized, and if you are getting income from Youtube, that too is from those two sources.

    The ad revenue is split with Youtube. Do you have documentation showing that Youtube ensures that none of that revenue pays for bandwidth?

    How much is it worth to them to have you consume their bandwidth, server resources, etc. and then adblock or skip ads entirely? Let's see, hard to say exactly but clearly something less than $0.

    If you meant something different, how about just saying "sorry, I misspoke"? I don't have any problem with your second statement ("old hardware is good enough").     Where in the specs does it say what FPS at what resolution is supports?
    2.5x is not "only a little" more expensive by anyone's measure.

    Basically you wanted a link to a prebuilt computer, under a $1000 (and I assumed US$) that could play games and was prebuilt.

    No. I wanted it to have the same graphics horse power as a console. If not that, WTF are we talking about? Gee whiz I can get a $99 Android phone that can play games. Does that prove me wrong? Heck I can pick up a Tiger handheld LCD game for $29. OMFG that's 10x CHEAPER than a console! It meets the criteria right: plays games.

    If people become used to having a basic income, it absolutely *MUST* be no strings attached.

    Uh. Why? Think of it like the government hiring you to be a "good" citizen. You don't have to be a good citizen, but you only get paid if you are.

    However, think about what employers are sometimes able to make their employees do

    Fortunately we live in a land of laws. I know in your nightmare world the government demands everyone get castrated and stick a carrot up their backside but back here in reality that's never going to happen.

    It will push more people into taxable territory, raise profits, generally generate tax revenue.

    That makes zero sense. So if we give people income, then tax that income, the taxes from the income we gave them are to pay for giving them income in the first place? Yeah I guess. As long as you tax them at 100%.

    But who is going to decide that instead of sitting home and watching TV, they're going to wait tables, or flip burgers, or enforce laws, or collect trash, or be a retail cashier?

    You get the basic income, but unlike welfare, you get it whether you work or not. So you'd flip burgers to increase your income beyond the level that basic provides.

    Second, we raise taxes to cover the rest. Everybody's taxable income goes up.

    So, we give people money, tax the money we give them, and uses the taxes to pay for the money we gave them in the first place? Sounds solid to me.

    So no, you didn't start this conversation saying that "old hardware is good enough for most people". You started it by saying that a windows machine "has all the same apps and features as the XBone for the same price" which is not true.

    It's almost 2.5x the cost of a console. Well, point made?

    Moreover, why would I buy a new PC that can play "almost" everything? If I'm buying a new gaming rig, wouldn't I want it to play everything, for at least the next few years? After all a console is going to play everything for the next 5+ years.

    So, you linked to random PC. What evidence do you have that can play 1080p games at 60 FPS? Moreover, it's $700, more than 2x as much as console. I'm really confused. Are you trying to prove my point?
