Regarding the real life examples, I guess it was the author choice to explain what the software does, not to teach TCP/IP again and let you deal with the use cases since there are several thousands of them.

I've been using Mozilla web and mail for a few month and decided to switch to Thunderbird for the mail to get rid of annoying mail bugs in Mozilla that were suppose to be fixed in TB 0.5 (new mail notification even if mail is junk is one of them).

Unfortunately the bugs are still here in TB and the many others you mentionned too. It seems that many problems are located in the core code and will be hard to fix soon. You can typically see those same bugs in Mozilla Mail.

I too wanted to use it, I love the excellent Enigmail extension, standard mbox storage and overall good GUI. I also think this project is very promising but at this point Firefox is much more usable than its mail buddy is.

I hope 1.0 will be as good as Mozilla first official stable release.

I've been more impressed by the nice integration of CD burning capabilities in iTunes, the UI is as simple as it can be but it is IMHO the most convenient UI to play/rip/burn songs.

They have recently hired the maintainer of PHP-Nuke, created a free online training site (MandrakeCampus) and ... and ...

I really don't want Mandrake to "simply" add something to Redhat especially if it is just eye candies.

Unfortunatly, the use of jdk1.2 is not efficient under linux. For example, i tried to run jEdit which is simply a text editor based on swing widgets, it was really slow, letters appear 1 sec after i type it, and using menubar is similar to an X11 session across the atlantic. Sun is about to release jdk1.3 but under linux, we only have an incomplete java2 which is not efficient enough.

I know blackdown guys did a great job (many thanks to them), but i would really appreciate that sun become more implied in the development of its language under free OS. Ibm make a wonderful compiler (jikes), and a pretty good jvm but i don't understand why sun doesn't do that job.

    - is there a really good support ?
    - is it so simple to configure and use that even my grand ma can read her mail with it ?
    - or is it because there is less users of caldera ?

I have to say that redhat and mandrake are the most problematic common distros but i'm not sure newbies are using debian or slackware.

btw, what i would appreciate is optimization of packages compilation. That's what mandrake is trying to do but it works only on i?86 platforms.

We want gov to use standard formats to communicate, i don't want to use msword to read official documents.
