  2. Internet voting is broken even if it is secure on Experts Find Serious Problems With Switzerland's Online Voting System (vice.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Internet voting breaks secret ballot. If you are being bribed or threatened into voting for someone & you are voting at booth, then you can vote for anyone without the perpetrator knowing who you actually voted for.

Internet voting, OTOH, doesn't ensure this - the briber or the "threatener" will be looking over your shoulder when you are e-voting.

  4. > - Everything here relies on a digital wallet - PayTM being the most popular.

Not true. I am an Indian living in India & I don't have any digital wallet. I do most things using netbanking payment gateways. But of course for that, you need an Indian bank account.

But, a point was made, black money in cash is not safe.

Actually, even before, just around 10% of "black money" was kept in cash. Nobody hoards cash for years. People change it to gold, real estate, take it for foreign accounts etc regularly. Plus they spend it. The cash people have is mostly just whatever black money they accumulate during the year.

Indian government is making serious efforts to reduce tax evasion, and personal fraud by making cash transactions difficult. Suddenly announces denomination of large currency notes, and only people who can prove they really earned the money legally get new notes, and all the old black money notes become useless.

But 99.3% of the old notes came back into the system. So the supposed blackmoney people were able to exchange their cash for new notes. By bribing bankers, by employing people to stand in line and exchange old notes in smaller sums, by paying workers in old cash which the workers would then exchange etc, etc. So essentially it was an exercise in futility.

I don't know of any country which allows you to vote without an ID.

  23. Nano was the car which brought down Tata Motors on RIP Tata Nano, the World's Cheapest Car (cnet.com) · · Score: 4, Informative

Tata Motor was the #2 car company in India after Maruti Suzuki before they introduced the Nano. Nano was their CEO Ratan Tata's pet project. Ratan Tata assumed the car would sell on it's own without much marketing & advertising expenditure. But the car didn't. People preferred to buy a 2nd hand car which cost the same as a new Nano but was a much better car. Ergo, the Nano was a flop. But because it was the CEO's pet project, the company wouldn't let it go, they spent a lot of money & effort over years to make sure the car doesn't die. Tata Motors went to losses because of the time, effort & money they spent on the car. They lost their position in the market. It was only after Ratan Tata resigned & a new CEO took over that the company was turned around again. And now they have at last stopped production of the car - something which should have been done 5-6 years back.
