The parent company of the Consumerist is Gawker media, which controls some pretty anti-Sony gaming blogs, Kotaku.com and Gizmodo.com.
Perhaps Microsoft paid some money to Gawker to help them advertise/astroturf the XBox 360? And perhaps this "story" is actually part of that FUD campaign against Sony (and the PS3)?
It's not unreasonable to expect Microsoft to engage in such tactics.
Granted, Sony is as evil as Microsoft in many ways, it's just that Microsoft is much better at it (and Sony innovates more than Microsoft).
[blockquote]No one should trust M$ for anything and everything they touch is suspect.[/blockquote]...including the XBox 360. Instead of newspapers and TV networks, they've used blogs to FUD the hell out of the PS3.
As much as I hate Sony, Microsoft is the greater evil here.
These days, Microsoft is still at it with their FUD campaigns against Linux and the PS3. We seriously should attempt to boycott their products, from Vista to the XBox 360. But people seem to have short memories.
Perhaps it's because Microsoft's been very successful at spreading it's FUD.
They bribe bloggers, their employees regularly peruse forums and post comments, they bribe review sites, edit Wikipedia entries. There is no logical reason to bash the PS3 over the XBox 360, yet people do it using illogical reasons. Microsoft is even going to include a HD player in their new version of the XBox 360 - so those complaining about Blu-ray and then raving about the XBox are hypocrites and raving fanboys.
This would ordinarily be modded insightful, but given the huge mindshare that Microsoft has accumulated towards it's XBox 360 on Slashdot, crap like "I saw no demo units working so I don't want to spend any money on it even though XBox has had more problems with it's machine", gets modded +5 insightful.
This is basically a FUD piece.
It's funny how Microsoft has basically taken control of Slashdot by converting the majority of Slashdotters into XBox 360 fanboys even when the Sony PS3 has Linux on it.
Stop trying to stereotype your own people. Just because you are part of said group of people doesn't give you the right to generalize. You can at last narrow it down to, "Korean web sites suck!", or "the people who I know that are Korean, are naive when it comes to computer software".
What are you talking about? Microsoft has never supported DRM, forced proprietary technologies, put companies out of businesses, used unethical business practices, or abused their monopoly in any way...
Information technology doesn't take part in revenue generation for most companies, and is viewed as a necessary cost that needs to be minimized. Marketing, sales, and even finance are viewed as revenue generating areas for businesses.
Because a business is striving to grow revenue and improve profits, marketing/sales/finance are viewed more highly for business leadership positions. Also, these guys don't do as much work as CIOs, so they have more time to devote to climbing the ladder. Also a significant portion of their jobs is people-related, so they can form more connections, while CIOs spend more of their time keeping up-to-date with new technologies.
Honestly, what's the point of this information aside from more FUD from Microsoft fanboys? Nevermind that there are other more technical-related aspects to the system, or *gasp* even positive coverage, such as the PS3 winning IGN's console of the year.
Besides, Kotaku and it's blogging network is well-known to be biased against the PS3 and Sony in general.
If this makes it on Slashdot, what's next? Do we get updates on price cuts of various technology products?
In any case, the bashers will bash away - no price cut means "teh PS3 is too expen$ive!!!", a price cut means "teh PS3 sux0rs!!! no 1 wants it!!!"
The question is, will prices rise when the games start coming out? When will Sony cut it's price for the PS3? When will Microsoft cut it's price on it's XBox 360, it's been over a year already.
Trying to "pay" them off to write something favorable for them - giving incentives such as notebooks, advertising dollars, free software, etc...
They do this to promote Vista, Zune, and the XBox. Their goal is to try to create a fanboy circle of consultants, gamers, and audiophiles, which will automatically do this for them. But the initial seed is through the media.
However, the features that it is missing are pretty key. Next generation DVDs, media readers, and something that people are too quick to overlook - a much better form factor.
It just plain looks better, there's no DVD tray, and there's no power brick. It's also a lot quieter. These are some things people look when buying brand A over brand B. Many people pay for quality, and the PS3 exudes more quality than the XBox 360.
...is through education. That, and protection of it's industries while they're still developing. Once multinational corporations start entering the picture, that industry is pretty much closed to the country which results in most poor countries selling bananas or catering to tourists.
On average, the opportunities are greater here, but the best opportunities (political, media, and top executive of a major corporation) are less than their previous country, if they're a visible minority.
That's why the most successful immigrants either start their own companies, where racism has less of an effect.

....and the demo games are unimpressive. I was able to play the Motorstorm demo and it was good.
But nice trolling... of course it's modded +5 insightful by Microsoft fanboys.
[blockquote]I know this is /. and MS bashing is de rigeur[/blockquote]
;)
Microsoft fandom is also de rigeur, as evidenced by the replies to this story. Usually replies defending Microsoft are modded +5 insightful here
....except you don't need to type "http://" in most web browsers today.
http://search.yahoo.com/
has a much smaller footprint. You can try that instead.
Hmmmm... those web sites look much like the new Yahoo!
I guess American computers suck too?

Who says we aren't doing our part to stop global warming? ;)

Looks like Microsoft forgot to send Zonk this week's cheque in the mail ;)

Ever since they took DevEdge offline without warning, I've been weary to rely on them as a resource. This is just another step toward insignificance.
...but does Carmack have a 3-digit Slashdot ID?

Just like when you spend $500+ for a iPhone to make calls, so all it should do is make calls right?
There's NOTHING wrong with having a device that does more than one thing.
Try "Blogger". Linking to web sites doesn't count as journalism.
Unsurprisingly, Kotaku.com is one of the most anti-Sony/pro-Microsoft gaming sites out there.

Do they substitute numbers for letters in their filtering?
