It should be obvious to the most dimwitted individual who holds an advanced degree in hyperbolic topology what it links to. That still doesn't make timothy any less of an asshole.
Think about it this way. Do you exonerate the spammer responsible for 40% of the world's spam just because the victims are dumb enough to click on v1@gr0 links?
No. These kinds of comments are what happen when taco gave Anonymous and 4chan all sorts of publicity starting a few months ago. The quality of discussion has decreased dramatically with the influx of new posters.
No. Wikileak's original mission of publishing otherwise unavailable documents from governments all around the world is what got them on the map, well before anybody knew who Assange was. Remember when wikileak's was an actual wiki? Go to the homepage now. Nothing but the cables and the Afghanistan docs are up there now. What happened to the rest of it?
I think the real "horror" story here is that the Treehouse of Horror Halloween special will not be aired until November 7th because of post-season baseball!
That was an article from the state run news organization and you accepted it hook, line, and sinker: Its as official as anything ever is out of china..
We wonder how the Chinese people can so easily succumb to their goverments propoganda and yet there are Westerners like you who fall for the same thing.
I'm sure the kinetic energy of the train was a tongue in cheek reference to the spate of articles and debate in recent weeks regarding what practical effects the LHC beam would have on physical objects in its path. See http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1725592
The second and third comments are pretty interesting.
We may have been starring at the stars for a long while but it's only until recently that we've had the methods to detect extra solar planets. Looks up on the discoveries of recent exoplanets and you'll find that it's not by direct observation but by indirect methods that we've "seen" these planets.
Ending my boycott of Steam was the best choice I ever made as a gamer. Steam can go dark tomorrow and I still won't regret having purchased games through them because the convenience and flexibility of being able to download my games on any PC anywhere has significantly increased my ability to replay the older titles that I own.
If you dig a little further [allthingsd.com], you will learn that the iPad came first in Apple's R&D pipeline.
You're splitting hairs here though. The iPad is just another computing device like the iPhone except with larger packaging and upgraded components -- the differences are not revolutionary. The entire ecosystem that resulted from and developed around the iPhone clearly came first and may not have occurred if the device was not a mobile device.
Sounds like someone just read Coyote! (http://www.amazon.com/Coyote-Allen-Steele/dp/0441011160/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1282892695&sr=1-1) Or if not, then needs to! I did not care for the book but my brother loves it.
Imagine what the day will be like when we find something like that. We'll know it's there, we'll know it's the right size and at the right distance from its star, but we'll know little else. We'll know that life very probably *could* exist there, but without getting much, much closer to it, we'd never know for sure.
Essentially, the book touched on this same theme. A ship of colonists departed from Earth because an Earth like planet had been discovered. However, little else was known about it other than that it could potentially support life.
...he'd be criticized for keeping secrets from the public...
In effect, he already is keeping secrets by publishing the encrypted 'insurance' file. If the file contains legitimate and valuable information, he's keeping it secret and contrary to wikileak's stated mission.
You must be that guy in the classroom or training seminar that everyone rolls their eyes at who feels the need to point out the obvious. I think it's apparent to everyone what he really meant.
This sounds neat and certainly looks like a nice feature but does anyone else think it's about time that Mozilla makes a stripped down lean version of Firefox without all the extra features for someone who's just interested in the core browsing attributes? They can name it something like Phoenix or Firebird to distinguish it from Firefox.
Indeed, I am. They wouldn't let me play little league when I was a kid because I didn't have stereoscopic vision because of my lazy eye. Not that I wanted to play anyway..

You're welcome.
Really? Is that what really happened?

Your post says a lot without saying anything at all. What is your point?

*woosh* over my head.

Exactly. Look how long we've been mining the Earth and we have yet to make a significant dent in its mass.

The /. front page this evening looks like The Register this morning.

The /. editors fall hook, line, and sinker for these advertisements for Ksplice submitted by an 'anonymous reader' every 6-8 weeks. Get used to them.
I've said this before. I think it's time that Mozilla release a stripped down, lean, mean version of Firefox without all of the bloat.
They can call it something like Firebird, or Phoenix, to distinguish it from the main branch.
