    The crushed remnants of five incad bulbs take up less space than the (much less crushable) ballast of a CFL.

    And, as others have said, you're supposed to recycle them.

    By 'Small arms' do you mean IEDs made with Iranian semtex and/or spare artillary shells or are you referring to RPGs?

    Do you know where I could stock up on a RPG-7 launcher and maybe a few dozen shells before the UN World Gubbment takes over?

    Oh, wait - I forgot. All the marginally effective stuff is illegal for civilians to own. Hell, most civilian rounds won't even cut proper body armor.

    I also noticed that the [Talk] page consists of two or three people supporting Abio, and a dozen or so saying it's junk science, usually while poking holes in it.

    I've looked, but I haven't found any reputable sources for Abio theory - When I asked my Earth Sci. teacher about it(IIRC, he worked in mining exploration for 20+yr, and is retired/teaching now), he laughed said something to the effect of "Extaordinary claims require extaordinary proof - And I don't think they can provide that yet. Sure would be convenient, though."

    Are there any oil companies successfully drilling where Abio theory would suggest that oil would deposit (And that the biogenic theory would deny)?

    The modern scientific consensus on abiogenic origin petroleum is that while there is evidence for it, most modern geologists do not support this for the vast majority of petroleum deposits within the Earth.

    It seems to me that as far as people are concerned, anything Microsft does is evil, but if Apple does the exact same thing .. it's considered ethical and benevolent.

    So, since it seems you don't agree, then you're not a person?

    (Hint: Plenty of people have problems with Apple for doing this kind of bullshit. Cory Docorow springs to mind. Spare us the tired 'You MS haters just luuuurve Apple when they do the same thing, hippo-crates' bull, OK?)

    I held it up by a corner of the spine and held out my other hand "Now, can I borrow your lighter for a minute?"

    He didn't give me his lighter, but he DID get the point. He's mostly migrated over to a Zire72.

    I'd say flash the unit with ROMs from one of the earlier 130s. Either a polite request on a Palm board, or digging around online should get you the ROMs you need.

    If you can't find them, use Romeo/Pilot-xfer or JackSprat to dig the G2 files out and replace them with G1 equivs.

    I stopped buying Palm machines after my PalmPilot Professional's OS became out of date, and Palm refused to offer any kind of upgrade to OS 3.0

    It's your lucky day, then - Palm released the 2 MB IR upgrade card that would not only give you IR functionality, but also equip your Professional with Flash ROMs so you can burn in a new OS (It even ships with 3.0)!!!!

    Seriously - Faulting the palm of that era for not offering upgrade options is absurd. They bent over backwards to avoid orphaning anybody (You can install 3.5 into an IR Upgrade card - You could use most of the same OS and peripherals on your IIIc and your Pilot 1000... Over five years of backwards/forwards compatability. If you don't think that's an accomplishment, look at the WinCE track record.)

    What, have you been burying PalmInfoCenter in posts accusing other posters of being pedophiles?

    If not, lighten up a little - I wasn't necessarily talking about you specifically. If so, well, as you say - Life really is a journey of self-discovery. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    OTOH - Maybe if you spent more time on the phone with Palm, and less time trying to incite widespread bad publicity, maybe they would FIX it - I'm sure that having to re-re-re-re-re-replace your unit (DHLing them from Texas) until you got one you were satisfied with would speak more clearly to their bottom line than one post out of the twenty-a-day on Slashdot.

    After all, my recently replaced (Under warranty) Treo180 has a LOT better reception, and is a lot more sturdy - No, the return process wasn't as simple/straightforward as I would have liked, but ... I have a unit I'm happy with.

    I suggest you try something similar - Unless, of course, you have another agenda. :)

    PalmSource/PalmOne (and palm specific sites) seem to have attracted either a very busy troll, or a well coordinated group of them - See the current state of PalmInfocenter.com, the near-total destruction of several other sites, and the conversion/widening (Usually at the vehement request of a few exceptionally vocal users) of others...

    Now, I'm not going to point to a certain competitor of theirs who is famous for launching faux 'vox populi' movements(See: Astroturfing), and has spent a LOT of money trying to win people over from Palm - But they DO seem like likely canidates.

    ...So much as that it's bootable - Many of the USB-key based MP3 players keel over dead when formatted(I believe because the player mechanism stores it's player code on the flash, in some crack-tastic fashion), thereby giving you the options of either living with a VFAT/no boot format, or giving up the MP3 playing capability.

    (Disclaimer - I haven't bought one and dug into this problem: I didn't want to waste money on an MP3 drive I couldn't boot from.)

    One thing that's always irked me is the attitude of the Palm community in general with new features. It's basically "we don't need that!" when presented with a competing platform's feature, and lo and behold, 2-3 generations later, it's being touted as a huge feature, and people are clamoring over it!

    And, of course, Palm affecianados are all identical and speak with one unified voice, like Slashdot.

    I think it's stupid that Palm has let the WinCE crowd goad them into a spiral of creeping featuritis - Until they make a color screen that has lower power draw than a B/W model, I'm still going to be in favor of B/W screens, to be honest - Having to lug a charger (Or even THINK about one) is a pain in the ass.

    By all means, keep your Game Platform/Movie Viewer/Radio receiver, and I wish you all the luck in the world with it - Just realize that it's not neo-ludditisim to not want to plow your fields with the wingtip of a jet fighter.

    The early palms (1000,5000,Personal, professional, some III models) had internal memory/upgrade slots, and they proved to be a sorce of continual headaches. Yes, your laptop's SODIMM memory dosen't flake out all the time, but how often have you dropped your laptop from waist height onto the floor?

    I'd like to see upgrade slots too, but I can understand why Palm's wary of them.
