Microsoft will get your "Internet protocol address, the type of operating system, browser and name and version of the software you are using, and the language code of the device where you installed the software." But all they really need is your IP address.
Huh, I thought I supplied that information to every website I visit.
Every time you install a Plug and Play device, you tell Microsoft about it in order to get the necessary device drivers. The same is the case for PnP-X enabled device, only that Windows Update is more actively involved in this case.
Oh noes!!! They need to know my device to supply the driver?
Good grief, I hate Microsoft as much or more than the average Slashdotter, but most of TFA is just alarmist FUD.
Irony - I love it

The cute saying of the minute at the bottom of the page is:
An effective way to deal with predators is to taste terrible.
Mr. Jobs: We have lots of people writing applications for our computers. We have almost one million people in our developer program. I don't think that's what matters to customers. What matters to customers is the experience they have using the product.
For a mere $12,000, you could build a home theater that stands up to the $100,000 image at local movie houses. Better yet, you could throw a projector party. Twelve friends show up with 12 off-the-shelf projectors, and suddenly you've got a wall-size image none of you could hope to produce on your own. And this mega-display is good for more than just movies. It might be even better for 3D games.
Yeah, never mind all that business about hi-res goggle displays, lets do the macro sized version.
Actually, I was at my daughter's "pre-orientation" for college last week, and at the IT presentation, I was asking "Are you doing port blocking/packet shaping?", "What's your policy on RIAA threats?", "How many laptops were stolen last year?", "Are you using static IPs in the dorms?", etc., etc., etc. After that, I had enough information to properly warn my daughter what to expect, and what not to do.
This brings up an important question: what's the legal status of XMLTV? The Zap2IT license seems to be broad enough to allow for it.

Dell wants to sell computers with Linux on them, (or, even better, SAY that they do) they just don't want to have to support computers with Linux on them.
Please, please, please, let's not forget Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., starring David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury. Possibly the worst and most unintentionally funny movie ever made.
Microsoft Corp. has clarified the identity of the mysterious trio on the installation disks for the business version of Windows Vista.
And no, you can't play the installation DVDs backwards and hear the devil talking, either.
Yeah, you have to play them forward to hear the devil talking.
Indeed, you got it exactly right. Yahoo's board further said that they think they have more leverage and actually promote free speech if they stay engaged, rather than taking their ball and going home.

I think that says it all.
Or has Jobs put his finger on the real difference between Apple and Microsoft?

The MAFIAA is evil, and colleges and universities are spineless. Film at 11:00.
"PUSH THE BUTTON, MAX!"
shhhhhh...BOOM!!!
"MAXXX!!!!!"
I'm not so excited by the tablecloth, but I wouldn't mind trying some case mods with this stuff.
TechnoVera's data came from Zap2it. Meanwhile, their URL http://www.lxmsuite.com/ is parked.
In other words, XMLTV is screwed, too.
OMFG!! That is just adorable! Thanks!

Seven hours of video playback from 8 Gigs (max) of RAM? Color me skeptical, too.
Parser error: you used "wide selection" and "Blockbuster" in the same thought.
Blockbuster only stocks "hits". And not for very long, at that.
You really are the most underrated poster on /.
Always good for a laugh.
> Completely fucking worthless
Not in court. There it's called "evidence".
Which is what TFA said, so I'm thinking the logs should be in hex.
It's (shear) spelled correctly, they just used the wrong word their.
What is this, AOL?
Me too!!
