How is it this Land Warrior has gone so far backwards?
Unfortunately, the Army has a LOT of hardiness requirements that slowed Landwarrior down. Mind you, if you want to swim in a swamp for five hours while using your computer, you can do it. But... That adds a lot to the system's weight and size.
I agree, the eye piece is one of the weakest components of the system - not just because it obstructs you vision but the extra unbalanced weight on your helmet causes discomfort and poor fit. Why we're using that over anything else, I don't know. The contracts had already been awarded by the time I joined up.
Wireless is out due to security/hardiness requirements. It actually took several years to engineer those cables. The connectors have to handle water, sand, and all sorts of much. The cables are shielded to prevent EM leakage. And theoretically (I left before any testing) the whole setup is EM hardened.
All this adds up to something bulky and heavy. And, because the specs are defined when the request for proposals is sent out, by the time the actual system is implemented everything is out of date.
On the good side, this iteration of Landwarrior is WAAAAY better than the previous one. Another couple of iterations and it should be really usable.
And that thing is heavy! Add to that 70 pounds of body armor and you can barely move. And it's slow and distracting. You can't go into a firefight while wearing one easily, and sending messages - one of its most powerful features - is clunky.
That being said, it's still pretty darn cool and I've met several soldiers who love it. It's not perfect and I think it still needs a generation of two before it's really combat ready. But the Striker Brigade that took them to Iraq is generally positive.
I tutored Comp Sci in College, and I tutored both men and women. The men were taking programming because it was required for their EE/Physics/ whatever degree. The women were taking programming because it was their major. If you need tutoring in your major, it's probably not the correct major. I've met plenty of mediocre programers in my life, both men and women, but the male programmers tend to last a shorter period of time than the women. I have some guess why, but I'd rather not be labeled as insensitive. And I'm female!
And my parents that don't understand what to do and call me up with a computer "problem"?
Again, it is my choice to make, not Microsoft's, not some public policy forum's, not the IT community's. This isn't a "fix" that Microsoft would be release but a change to my preferences.
The idea behind this article is that ordinary people are too stoopid to be able to do this themselves, and so the wiser heads must do it for us. This is typical Ivory Tower mentality which assumes that ordinary people must be "guided" at all times as we don't know what's good for us.
As one of the "little people" I am deeply offended by this attitude. I believe I know what's best for me, and if it means not using hibernate mode, then it is my choice.
And you want me to show you one competitive market that is bad to the poor? You've never found any, you say? How about health insurance, or healthcare in general. There's a couple of free-markets that have screwed the poor. You really didn't think of those?
Um, you make a grave mistake. Healthcare is no a free market. When the government limits costs (medicare) to less than break even, the costs of everyone else goes up to compensate. Then add in health insurance, where the consumer doesn't relly get a good feel for the cost of services, and people will consume more than they would if they had to pay for it themselves. So the prices go up. The only part of health care that is "competitive" would be health savings accounts (HSA). HSA's let consumers feel the value of their dolar and make informed choices for themselves. And yes, bargin for better prices.
Catholic Church Schools usually charge about 1/3 of the cost of public schools and yet have much better success rates. So let all those rich kids go to the expensive public school!
With all the candidates. So I choose the candidate who can do the least harm - which is always the LIbertarian. Anyone who wants less laws and regulations will win my vote even when I vehmently dissagree with his other positions.
Even worse, there is a common belief in South Africa and neighboring countries that sex with a virgin will cure AIDS. So a lot of infected people are raping school children - as you and kindergarten - in the hopes of a cure. Instead, they're condeming the poor kids to a life with HIV.
I hate to confess it, but I actually visit an all flash site daily! And yes it sucks. But I have a polar heart rate monitor that uploads to the web, and the only way to access the data is through their all flash site.
Me - sorry, never got into the lesbian thing.... I AM sleeping with the first guy though! That's why his wife keeps checking on his posts at work!

Texas is a Right to Work state, which means you can quit any time you want. Your employer doesn't have a leg to stand on.

That's already a problem!
Maybe the Jews had it right all along? Eating pork is bad!
And this is a bad thing?
What? The voices in my head are neanderthals? They told me they were aiens!
Hey! I don't want a pink iPod! I want EVERY color so it can coordinate with what I'm wearing each day!
Got hungry and ate them!

Thank you for your rational defense of belief. A lot of out there are scared to admit on forums like this that we do believe!
It's intented to hook to a portable unit like the PSP so you can take it outside....
requiring all benchmarking to follow Microsoft's rules. And not allowing virtualization for it's home versions.
Like every consumer the world over - I'm willing to drop all my hard earned principles if it benefits me!

Titanium is soooo 20th century. Carbon fiber is MUCH cooler! It doesn't have to be effective (Is the fourth blade anymore effective than the third).
is for new materials for blades. Steel is all nice, but how 17th century can you get? The modern man shaves using carbon fiber technology!
