Your eyes are closed, and you refuse to open them, yet you call us blind?
When Microsoft releases the 3rd service pack 6 years after he launched his virus-prone operating system, I'll gladly open my eyes and admit my blindness.
And have Microsoft realize their empire on software development is no more. Right now we have enough development tools available or in progress: MONO (alternative for.NET), Gambas (alternative for Visual Basic - linux only tho), KDevelop (for C++ under Linux), Code::Blocks (for C++ under Windows), wxPython, DABO (Foxpro alternative, uses wxPython)...
Soon Bill Gates won't have to worry about people stealing his development tools... because NOBODY WILL USE THEM! X-D
OK, I RTFA, and there's something I don't get. Can somebody point to me the similarities between Castlevania and Super Metroid, besides the obvious "metroid syndrome" in SOTN?
I enjoyed both SuperCastlevania IV and SuperMetroid, the gameplay was very different. The only similarity between those two are the grappling hook / whip balancing. So, I really don't know which Castlevania they're talking about. I actually have the suspicion that the author only said it to look cool and have us all startled wondering "WTF?"
Make a 3D display like the ones in the.Hack TV series. Or at least make effective add-ons so you can have a wristwatch that has a compass on it, or a vest that turns red depending on how much your character's bleeding, stuff like that.
But I'd rather go to the 3D glasses, because I really hate not being able to shoot backwards while looking forward. All that fast scrolling gives me migraines and nausea X-(
Flash and image ads in themselves are not evil things.
Yes, they are, they consume my bandwidth and CPU! And there's no way to switch them off!
As a general rule i had to close my browser so i can start compiling my C++ programs, otherwise the flash steals the CPU and my compilation times multiply.
That was, Of course, before adblock - but i find that a bit counterproductive for sponsors. Well, it's their loss now.
Actually the idea is as old as the MAD magazine, but with today's technology it could be implemented using public keys and a tiny modem in the headset.
voice -> data -> public-key encrypted data -> voice.
Over the course of a month, the contestants' perceptions will become reality as they are immersed in every sensorial way possible - sights, sounds, motion and environmental on a 24/7 and 360-degree basis - to take them on a fantastic outer-space mission never before experienced.... While immersed in this environment, the teams will compete on missions, which will take their respective biocrafts to intergalactic locales. Periodically, the teams will be forced to jettison a crew member, until - at the end of a month of complete immersion - a winner returns to Earth.
You know, with all this high tech, I wonder if adding the "reality" element with the 24hr cameras, etc. is really necessary. If the SFX are as good as they say, just watching the contestants complete their "intergalactic" missions is worth it.
No more "reality", please... we're sick tired of it.
When you talk about classic melding of story and cinematography in games, Jedi Knight has to come up somewhere.
*AHEM* you're forgetting it's LucasArts you're talking about. These guys are movie makers (Indiana Jones, anyone?), they obviously got experience on these things. I think there's simply no comparison between them and other game companies. I'd put them in a separate category.
... is simply: If I don't do this, will someone else do it?
Many crimes have happened because of this way of thinking. The right thing to do is say "no", and if someone else does it, at least you won't have to sleep with it hammering your conscience.
One thing i absolutely hate about those cutscenes is that they can't be cut! I really wish i could press the start button to skip the scene with the bosses. I nearly memorized that fight between the prince and the axe/sword monsters.
*growl* (prince draws his sword) (prince gets hit from behind) *growl!* "Well, i have to admit, i didn't expect that..." (monster grabs sand and burns the grass around the arena) (boss fight begins, until you get killed and have to continue the game, to see the stupid scene over and over)
At least the Ubisoft guys could've put a "Skip cutscene? Yes/no" dialog.
On the other hand, for games like Final Fantasy X, I absolutely LOVED the cutscenes. I just kept playing so I could play more cutscenes and see what happened with the story.
See, it's all about if the cutscenes contribute to the story or not. AND if you can skip and later replay them - but PLEASE, PLEASE... allow me to save between cutscenes!
The prediction guys aren't quite wrong. they just got some ideas 10 or 20 years ahead.
Voice recognition: Check. E-paper on the wall: Kinda, but the technology's there. 3-D glasses: Well um...
Vast amounts of information: "With instant referencing of thousands of volumes of information, computing will be like working with an army of electronic elves, all ready to fetch in a flash any tidbit you like."
They got it half right... had they thought about the internet, they might have figured about Google and Wikipedia. No, Encarta doesn't count. It sucks:P
"It'll also allow you to store audio and video". DivX - check:) ""You'll be able to capture segments of a show you like, cut them out, and put them in a video report for school." TiVo is here:) but companies' interests kinda screwed that up. However, Google video search is here, too:)
Sorry, but you are calling out for an intellectual discussion in the middle of a karma-whoring feeding frenzy.. this is no time for rational debate.
That was my whole point. I got tired of hearing that Bush is anti-science just because he happens to hate cloning. (FYI: I hate both cloning AND Bush). But cloning is not the only way to get stem cells, and research on non-embryonic stem cells is STILL in its infancy.
So I just wanted to shut everyone up and ask them to throw the first stone. Actually I hoped some pro-choicer would speak up, but I guess there was no one around. In any case, i'm satisfied.

ReactOS Code Audit

I'm sure that some MS troll would be delighted to say there is MS code in ReactOS. So, what would the devs do? Just ignore the problem and face a lawsuit later? Or address the issue ASAP?
She must have thought lawyers existed for the purpose of enforcing the law that the congress has made to benefit us, the citizens.
In other words, she fell for all that bullshit she was taught at law school.
Worse, she believed that by being sincere and honest (what lawyer isn't sincere and honest? O:) ) about how stupid and practically impossible to enforce some laws are, she might be able to change the world.
I can imagine her face when she realized IP lawyers are nothing but vampires getting rich by suing poor people according to their clients' whims.
In a country where the Law only supports the rich and powerful, it is my obligation as a human being to fight against that law. Either in the courts / congress, or in the 'net. I choose the 'net, but this girl has the opportunity to fight in the courts.
I'd appreciate it if she joined the EFF and aid the people in a just cause.
"Calling all of your potential future customers 'thieves', is perhaps 'uncool' marketing strategy!"
:)
With the RIAA suing so many people over piracy, i think i'll print that letter and put it in a golden frame
Well, don't forget that he thwarted Wordperfect, OS/2, Netscape and used his monopolic position to become the richest man on earth.
In summary, Gates happened to be the wrong person at the right time and place.

(This is actually a bad rip off of the now famous "First Post!')
:P
Actually, from the place of your posting, I think the full name would be "First Psot from the Second Place"

They got SVN, and compared to sourceforge, they're relatively fast.

You mean, "if we're going to war, better spend the least on it"?
I'd agree with this.
They exist?
Depends... do they mean "in the Sun(TM)"?
I wonder what name they'll come up with. I would choose "Proserpine", Pluto's wife.

Maybe you guys disagree with Bush's proposal. But HOW would you change it? What would you remove?
Is it valid to sell or buy a human embryo? To clone embryos? To make human-animal hybrids?
As with all controversial issues, it's not possible to please everybody. So I'd like to ask slashdot what parts they agree and disagree with, and why.
I'd call her naïve.
