  1. Not surprising on Worm Hits Windows Machines Running MySQL · · Score: 2, Interesting

I wonder why Microsoft doesn't just decide to build a new OS from scratch that will only run its own software and be very limited but only do one thing good. It doesn't surprise me everytime an exploit appears for programs or OS's nowadays since no one tries to make their stuff secure. Even OpenBSD doesn't do enough. They need to start with more limits and be less user friendly when you are doing something like database software.

  2. Purpose on Cloudscape Gains Momentum · · Score: 3, Informative

Best thing about cloudscape is small embedded databases for java programs rather than making calls to a huge mysql database. You may say that java is slow but anyone using cloudscape for more than 20,000 entries may not be thinking that through. Cloudscape will also be useful for java programmers to program a database using java.

Isn't it all about being free and open anyhow? Solaris will be a great addition and we can try out yet another *nix. Some people cry that solaris is nothing good at all but I'd say its a step up from freebsd on the server side of things. It was the "best" commericial unix anyhow. Idea swapping will be the best thing about the 2 platforms. If only we did the same with bsd's.
