I wonder if Mr. Gates gets a stiffy by a brutal demonstration of his powers, by crushing the life of a simple teacher.

Did you read the article you posted? It's a CRIMINAL case, being brought by local law enforcement, not Bill Gates, you dolt. Besides, if MS did call up the local prosecutor to ask them to back down, then MS would be *flooded* with requests for amnesty from people all over the planet. I think that if anybody, Gorbachev is going a bit soft in the head. It was a ridiculous request.

Just go Linux; be free. Especially Ubuntu; easy, free, capable and no threats.

That's a lot of FUD in one line! Ubuntu is certainly NOT easier than XP. It's NOT free, since we'd have to hire administrators that we currently don't need to use Windows. It's not capable of doing anything we need it to do (other than email), because there's no real business software available for it that's not designed for Fortune 500 companies. No threats? Really? You wanna bet?

And who is forcing you to consume this media, exactly? Most of my music comes from either live bootlegs or local independent musicians. DRM isn't even on my radar (not that DRM frightens me). If you want to listen to Shitney Spears and friends, and the only way it's available is on some proprietary format that you have to have a special reader for, then that's the product. The assumption that anybody should be able to use any information any way they want is where the whole DRM argument falls apart. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. It's that simple.

Not really. You're STILL paying your cable or satellite provider to watch commercials. It's very easy to use the Net and not be subjected to advertising. Anybody who *pays* to watch commercials is a sucker.

I got a used copy of Halo for my GF's XBox to see what all the hype was all about. Not only was it boring, but the graphics were terrible to the point of not being able to see what the hell you're shooting. The sound was a joke. The controls made me feel like I was perpetually drunk when I was playing, it was so sloppy. Halo was actually the worst FPS I've ever played, and luckily, I was able to return it. I don't know why people bought this piece of shit game. It was truly terrible.

Big companies making deals behind closed doors with each other. Is that "Open"? Sounds like regular business to me. Standards are what Linux desperately needs, but I certainly don't like hearing about big companies having secret meetings about supposedly "Open" and "Free" software projects.

Last I checked, the reader was a 60+ meg install, and it's such a pig that PDF's take MINUTES to open on some of our machines, if the perpetually updating/crap installing reader doesn't hang trying to do an update. I shouldn't need a work around for a simple text file. It's absurd. That, and the file format itself is so bloated that it makes MS Word files look trim by comparison.
It's simply unacceptable. It's bad software. It's a bad file format. We won't use it. It's that simple. If more people refused to accept bad software, I think that we'd have less bad software floating around out there.
