I wonder, even though probably at the moment the altitude is too low, would this not be an issue for companies or amateurs trying to launch objects into space and getting struck by these space "debris"?
and for the last two he would have had to turn it on. i.e. not unpowered for the duration of the cruise. Not to mention the batery probably doesn't last _that_ long.
I wonder, when he'd switched it on, would he have seen the new e-mails in his inbox? perhaps raised an eyebrow?
My poorly worded comment was centralized around the concept that you would not bring a phone and always leave it off. An iPhone is nothing without power.
And he brought it with him, because... why, exactly? You're on a mediterranean cruise and alledgedly your phone just happened to be there too. Switched off all the time.
Yea right. MY guess is that he did indeed switch it on occasionally. If only to show it off to his fellow iPassengers.
I thought Apple kept up with the demand, given that the ebay resellers could not get a smackingly large profit out of it. They were the ones returning the phone within the two weeks time.
I wonder what would have happened if Apple didn't drop the prices so steeply. They'd have made more profit, instead of raising questions now.
A good design goes a long way. However, the Danish (furniture) stores how that for Designer furniture, you're really paying at least twice the price for the same furniture just because it's hip.
I like Apple's design over that of the others because it feels a little more solid than the others. My SonyEricsson K790i is already flaking on the paint part, showing its true colours.
I believe ringtones were the big music industry money maker, so guess who forced this? The industry doesn't have much leverage over Sony (w.r.t. your ericsson comment), but it does have some over Apple, since they are selling songs through iTunes...
No way the industry would let Apple run away with the ringtone trump card for free.
trust the Street to correctly identify the source of any apple-stock-related hiccups. They've been a wonderfully anti-apple enterprise. Almost like the Register, except that the latter doesn't actually put so much anti-apple spin on the news bar a negative comment here or there.
I think the new nano looks wrong as well. It used to be tall and sleek, but they apparently sacrificed the monolith design in order to fit a bigger screen. I'll pass judgment as soon as I've had one in my mitts though.
But really, this looks like a little more than "just" an ipod. I mean, which ipod comes with a (fully functional) web browser? I assume it also runs on this iphone lean OS X. So it's like an UMPC. No microphone though, not yet (although some ipods have them as acc.), I'm thinking skype here...
And when everyone is a potential criminal.... NO ONE WILL BE! muhahaha. (sto.. adapted from Syndrome in the Incredibles)
I wonder how you would check whether the record of your DNA is up-to-date and correct. I certainly can't remember all my chromosomes.
Imagine "others" (read: companies) getting their hands on this database. Insurance companies will be thrilled to correlate the chromosomes to your likelihood of requiring said insurance.
The screen is situated quite awkwardly though, it being at crotch height.
I wouldn't like to ahve someone talk to my private parts, and I guess now he can be sued by women for constantly staring at their sexually reproductive organs.
Well, if you're looking at large matrices and purely numerical things, I'd advise Matlab myself. I haven't used Maple much though, and I haven't even touched Mathematica, so there's a disclaimer before the flames:).
visualisation options in Matlab are quite extensive as well.
To repeat one of the survival mantras: Do not EVER leave your (broken) vehicle! Do NOT try to walk out of deserts and the likes, you're most likely to get yourself killed that way.
I hope they have an expanded keyboard, so I don't have to abandon most characters and upper-case characters.
I think that's the strength of my password: people can see what I type if they can remember fast enough, but not really understand which character I type in combination with shift;).
sides or no sides, the 120mm fans (which really aren't all that powerful) blow perpendicularly onto straight surfaces. This will create a nice cushion of air right at the center of the object blocking the airstream, with actually very little heat conductance at that point.
My point was that they didn't think much about cooling the systems. giant heads have the same issue:)
I saw the pictures, and whilst there are fans on it, there is no enclosure around it to force airflow over the most important components. It looks like the fans just blow on the nearest cards perpendicular to the motherboard, causing stress on the cards, and additional vibration, without cooling the elements behind it.
and yet, you use the internet..

I heard something about the browser not recognising the e-mail message entering field as a text field... Perhaps I was mistaken.

(this two-minute interval between posts is now really getting on my tits. I'm done for the night. cheers all.)

Perhaps they have the ringtone option just to show the music industry what crap it really is.
Then again, given how thick that industry is, I think they'll be a shining example of how you can miss an obvious point.

Well, the browser is already there, word and excel will most likely not ever get on there.
I think we have to take it as it is, and not try to make too much of an otherwise also pretty neat machine.

p.s. I hate this bloody 2 minute limit on the slashdot comments system. Some people just type short messages, mkay?
weren't there still issues with the iphone and gmail?

Now I have something to want (tm) for christmas.
no e-mail client, but I guess web-based e-mail would work too.

And it'll create peace in the office. No physical fights possible.
On the other hand... robot wars...

f /photos/Microwulf-Pages/Image3.html, especially, shows the futility of the fans. Good airflow design isn't easy.
I think this onehttp://www.calvin.edu/~adams/research/microwul
