If (like me) you think it unlikely that Microsoft will be able to double its profits anytime soon, then you could sell MSFT short
not to undermine your post or anything, but what you have described is best encapsulated in an option. you'd do well to look into PUT options on microsoft stock, which give you the right to sell at a certain price at a certain date in the future.
actually MIT cares A LOT what students do with their machines. i can't tell you how many times they threatened to shut down our house network because someone's windows box didn't have all the necessary security updates.
they are continually monitoring for vulnerable hosts on the MIT (18.*) network. my guess is that you won't see the above-mentioned vulnerabilities persist for long.
my post was answering the question "why does it not bother you that apple has a 'monopoly' on music for the iPod"... i think you misunderstood me completely. i was saying that it doesn't bother me that i can "only" get iPod music from iTunes since iTunes is currently so much better than everything else out there. BUT if MS store proves to be better (doubtful) then i might be upset about the current Apple/iPod/iTunes situation.
personally, it doesn't bother me because it actually works. and works well. that might be naive, but that's my reason. it's hard to complain about being locked into something that is so much better than everything else out there... maybe i will decide that MS music store blows iTunes away (ha). then, i might get upset...
have you ever done a topcoder competition? it's about speed AND accuracy. sure the fastest person gets the most points, but a) if your code doesn't pass their system tests you get ZERO points and b) other people can look at your code, try to find faults and challenge it. if they challenge you and your stuff breaks (takes more than allotted amount of time, gets a corner case wrong etc) they get bonus points and you lost your points. i think this is a pretty neat system, and i dont think it's advocates bad practices. remember, these problems are designed to be solved quickly.

i took ron rivest's crypto class my senior year at MIT and simson was the TA (one of two TAs actually). oh man, is this guy high on himself! he might be the most condescending person i've ever talked to and the worst part is that he doesn't even seem to realize it. he has crazy articles in techreview all the time and sometimes it just seems like he is fishing for "a good idea." all in all, i know he's a sharp guy, but i think sometimes his ambition wins over his better judgement.
If they are just looking for an engineer now, just think how long before any product sees the light of day.
just because they are looking for anotherengineer now, doesn't mean this project (whatever it may be) hasn't been underway for some time now. perhaps they lost a member of the team and are looking for a replacement or something. as for the first part of your post, who says this media wi-fi thingamabobber will be an iPod replacement? perhaps it (if "it" in fact exists) will just be another member of the iPod family. like an iPodAV or something like that.
if you actually had bill's number to begin with, you probably deserve his passwords as well... have you ever called Microsoft? if you don't know the exact name of the person you want to talk to, they won't even talk to you. if you ask for a "department" they will tell you to bugger off!
i most certainly believe this is going to become a popular way to game (in multiplayer situations for sure). i just graduated from college and i cant tell you how many hours my friends and i wasted playing HALO on the projector i bought. whenever it was time to make teams (i was in a fraternity so we always had 8 people ready to play) there was always a huge fight over who got to play on the "big screen" and who had to go in the other room and play on the tv.
i definitely recommend that if any HALO fans get a chance to play on a projection screen, take it! its a totally different experience. incidentally, there were clubs at school that used to commandeer lecture halls and stage huge HALO tourneys on the projection screens. this was at MIT though, so i guess that might not be so common.
actually, AFAIK, the official notifier has the annoying quality that you cannot change the ping frequency. i suspect the parents reasoning is an apt explanation

VERY good observation. as an MIT alum, i have received NUMEROUS messages about the appointment and NONE of them mentioned that she was the first woman. my friends and i kept wondering and wondering, but it never came up anywhere until i saw this/. story this morning.
they arent making a big deal out of it, and neither should we.
bit by bit copies do not work for dvd movies... the data is encrypted. one must decode the.VOB (video object) files using the CSS key first, then rewrite them onto new media.

"25,000 bucks a month" in indian rupees amounts to $540 US a month, and that gets the poster excited! no wonder they are outsourcing to india. i made twice that working part time as an undergraduate..
incidentally, at MIT there is a course called 6.004 (Computation Structures) that all CS and EE undergrads have to take... in that class we implement a simulator for a processor called the "Beta" which is essentially a scaled-down alpha...

it sounds like you just argued that having women in the workplace will make us all less happy. maybe you want to re-think this one?

i know how to copy a dvd... i am just saying, you cannot do it using something like dd.
in essence, it is the ugliest thing ive ever seen... but for some reason the screen makes it oh so pretty.
