Thats why they need to get multiple data points to make a recommendation. If you rented a lot of the "I'm a Mac Guy" movies and rated them highly, then there is a bigger chance that that is the reason you liked that movie. If you refused to rent, or rated poorly the movie "Rugrats Gone Wild" then you probably aren't a rabid Bruce Willis fan etc. The entire goal of the project is to find films you like without you having to do a mini-review of every movie you have rented/saw.
You combine the tallied results with the exit polls. Exit polls are not flawless, but are usually a relatively good indicator of how close the election was. If its a lopsided defeat then there is no reason to force the votes to be counted by hand. If its close, the votes can be recounted by hand.
'
Now I suppose that system could be manipulated, for instance the exit poll data could be manipulated or a politician that lost could demand a recount even though they are pretty sure that they actually did lose, but I would be willing to bet that both of those would be somewhat self-limiting. If a politician/party is found to have manipulated the exit polls they probably won't be very popular(if they even won at all), and if a politician constantly calls for recounts that they know to be hopeless they wont' be very popular either.
How is that even remotely on topic? Seriously, can we have at least ONE slashdot story where someone doesn't mention "**AA"(which is a misuse of splats and/or regexes anyway)? This is what happens when a site turns from 'news for nerds" to "message board of the pirate bay" I suppose.....
Because everyone KNOWS that Europeans weren't involved in Vietnam, nope, no European country colonized Vietnam for about a hundred years, collaborated with the Japanese, then wanted their colony back by force if necessary. You are right, not European country would get involved in a war like that.
Ditto for Iraq. A European country would NEVER, EVER colonize the middle east, brutally oppress the people there, take all their resources and arbitrarily redraw borders. Nope, no European country would ever do that.
And no European country would EVER set out to wipe a race of people off the map necessitating those people to seek a homeland of their own and a need to defend it to the death if need be. Nope, a European country would NEVER do that.

I love it when Europeans get high and mighty about this stuff, despite the fact that EUROPEANS ARE THE BIGGEST MURDERS IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD! More people have been murdered by Europeans than the rest of the world combined, and yet Europeans like to pretend that they are these peace loving people who look down on the dirty war mongerers. Funny how ignorant most Europeans are of their own history.
One of the things that actually make time machine work well is that OS X keeps a log of every file updated on the system, and when the time machine daemon runs it looks at that log and knows which files to back up(as well as what time to mark them with etc). Now, maybe I'm doing rsync the stupid way, but doesn't rsync have to rescan every file on the system to see if it has changed? If you are backing up large directories that could be a large performance hit....
Not to mention that many online places often times actually put it in the mail a few days before the official release date. I've ordered games from Amazon that have arrived on release date or maybe the day after. Much more convenient, and depending on where you live(sales tax and all) usually price competitive with brick and mortar places(even moreso if you manage to snag it in your gold box or something like that).
which makes it much easier to grab the low hanging fruit. The history of medicine goes back thousands of years and is much more "mature". Any industry accomplishes a lot when it is young, that seems to be the nature of the game. Look at airplanes. There was less than 50 years between the flight at Kitty hawk and testing the first jets. But how much have planes improved in the past 50 years? Not nearly as much because it gets harder and harder to find places to improve. Boeing's all composite design is pretty revolutionary, but it only achieves about a 20% increase in efficiency at best. Same with medicine.
Medicine is also chasing a moving target much more than say microchips are. There are always going to be new challenges in tech, but once a problem is "solved" in the computer world, it tends to stay that way. Compare that to what medical researchers have to deal with. As seen in the news, bacteria and viruses evolve. Malaria is a constantly moving target. Much harder to chase a moving target than a still one.
Requiring the use of the microphone was a bad idea

Phantom Hourglass Review

Not to mention they use the same puzzle with the microphone multiple times. Ok, I blow into the ds, I get it, it's interesting, but not something I'm willing to do in a public place(and since we are talking about a portable, it will often be used in those places). Doing it once, ok, but requiring me to blow into the microphone multiple times to solve what is basically the same puzzle(lighting some lamps, blowing off dust on my map) is just dumb. And don't even get me started about having to shout.....
The game also breaks the 4th wall multiple times. When you are first starting the game I can understand why you might need to do so, but the game just keeps on breaking it and breaking it. The worst being when you had to close the DS to solve a puzzle. It just really takes you out of the game.
I think Nintendo broke a cardinal rule of alternative inputs here: If you use them, don't disable the more "traditional" inputs unless you have a good reason to do so. Phantom hourglass has yet to produce a good reason for why you cannot use the d-pad or hit alternative keys instead of blowing into the ds etc... Still an alright game, but pales in comparison to how much fun Minish Cap was.
For starters the stakes are a lot higher now. Look at the admission rate to the Ivies this year, its something on the order of 10% or so. The competition is cutthroat and only going to get worse. Furthermore, increases in tuition have far outstripped financial aid AND increases in salaries, so competition for aid and scholarships, which usually are based at least in part on grades, has become incredibly intense. Finally, a college education has almost become required in the US to enter the middle class. So vast quantities of money for someone(maybe not even the parties directly involved) are on the line. I think it warrants serious punishment. Maybe not 20 years in prison, but it's much more than a "prank" nowadays.

I love the PS3 and hate the Wii
Not to mention OS...wouldn't windows activation have a fit if you replaced that much of your computer? And yes, if you are gaming Windows is pretty much required(which is why I own a wii that I hook up to my mac:P)

Hey, the original poster is probably German, so you know how those Krauts love war(or at least don't like celebrating wars they caused and then lost)

They have mayo flavored potato chips in Japan, and that was one of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten.
