Running a server, especially a web server, is THE most difficult system administration task there is. You have to simultaneously allow access to the world to some bits, while simultaneously allowing access to other bits only to authorized individuals. All while being naked to the world.
This requires a rational, knowable system to even be reasonable to attempt. If you don't have the source, you cannot know it--and I don't give a damn how wonderful your knowledge base is. MS's knowledge base IS good, and it's the standard response I get to this from Windows zealots. But they remain blind to the fact...that they are blind, ultimately, as you are forbidden from truly understanding your server software.
"We are so sorry that you are suing us because we are trying to keep this company from being completely destroyed in value by being purchased by an incompetent predator. "
Dude, he's not saying he's better, he's saying that his country has set things up so that this is the case, and it is a travesty since he lives in a first world country.
Get that chip off your shoulder before your hurt yourself.
Only fools actually buy music from iTunes, anyway.
I keep asking people--what did you get for your money? They always answer, "I own the song". Really? Do you? You can do whatever you want with it? And they say, "Oh, well, no, of course not. I guess I have a license for the song, to play it whenever I want." To which I respond, "so you bought a license."
And they all frown and shuffle their feet and say they guess so.
When I was in about the tenth grade, I went to the boy's room during lunchtime, where the smokers traditionally congregated. Something was wrong--I couldn't put my finger on it, but standing there at the urinal I was strangely hesitant to relieve myself.
All of a sudden, I realize there's several girls hanging out with the smokers, all of them staring at me and giggling, and me standing there in front of the urinal doing nothing.
I didn't see them in there because I wasn't looking for girls in the boy's room.
I, like many slashdotters, was a fairly early adopter of computer and internet technology. In the mid 90's I had a couple-year spell of IRC addiction. The I realized what a dumb waste of time it was and got over it.
I think the general population is just going through a similar phase, now, that many of us went through years ago.
Of course, there are always those without any common sense who don't realize their lives are being ruined by Crackberries, WoW, or some other thing which isn't really as good or fun as it seems at first.

You're right, those countries are not good examples of the triumph of capitalism and democracy--because they don't have those, there. They just aren't communist.
They are corrupt and authoritarian--which is why they don't work. And communism inevitably has the same issues, which is why it will never, ever work.
I know we like stuff to be free, but it really shouldnt be unless the person chooses to give it away.
You're making a huge value judgement here without anything to back it up. Why SHOULD something not be free even if "the person" does not "choose to give it away"? Are you really sure about that, in all cases?
I wasn't suggesting they should care what I think per se. I'm suggesting they should stand up for their own human dignity, and that in fact that is probably their responsibility and their problem.
Anyway...you can't "steal" technology, any more than you can steal any string of bytes, like music.
Or are you suggesting we try to keep them in the stone age?
I said "knowable", not "I know it". :-)
I don't! But I know that I can, and occasionally I do indeed go grubbing through the source when I'm looking for explanations of it's behavoir.

Yeah but Bruce, most of us can't afford justice. So what are ya gonna do?
How many people here have actually worked at a company that went bankrupt trying to implement SAP "solutions"?
You need to go work for another company. Good ones are out there. Just keep looking.
The toads will self-destruct at some point.

You haven't bought a fucking thing.
There's a difference between "making" money, and "getting" it.
This guy is "getting" it.

Needless to say--I pay attention to this day!
The internet IS a peer to peer file sharing tool.
Why call it "Source" Force?
MS is continually trying to weaken the various Open Source "brand names"
The FAQ means NOTHING. Only the license itself matters.
Don't be such a dupe.

This is why I've been down on ebay for several years now--every since I tried to sell my Gameboy advance programmer. And it was deleted.
Fuck ebay, they suck worse every year, anyway. They've never had any notion of business ethics, ironically.

Meanwhile, back in reality, consumers--customers--expect to get what they were promised and paid for.
"Stealing from other users" indeed. What a dumb notion.
Phfthsphth. I'm paying out the nose for their "commercial" speeds, and I get at best 1mbps download.
And upload still sucks, just sucks a little less.
I am deeply unhappy because I have no other options, and it is overpriced.
Uh, people are different from governments and corporations.
Just fyi.

Who said anything about us (the West) doing anything about it? My post was advocating revolution from within.
You are completely out of your mind, and wrong.
