a lot of us, especially being slashdot readers, critize this move. but go ahead and find the ipod mini release artice. yea. now realize that for awhile, apple sold every mini it had available and had the entire nation on backorder for months.
yea.
i just bought a G4 40 gig 3 weeks ago. i'm kind of pissed myself, but really i do realize that not a lot of functionality has been added. if you really want to, you could take the cover off of the ipod, paint it black, if you're half competent you can do a decent job, and you've got the u2 ipod. the "box set" being sold with the ipod is also available from itunes for 149 dollars....for over 400 songs.
ipod hacks already exist to act as a picture viewer, and there are belkin devices that actually integrate flash cards directly to any dock connector ipod, in case you've forgotten.
finally, and most importantly, you have plenty of people with too much money, who will buy them for the same reasons as the mini; they're appealing and everyone wants the bleeding edge.
You know, even when they say they've digitally remastered it and all, I just can't tell the difference. I can always tell the difference in recent movies, but for old movies put into DVD, how does that increase quality? Doesn't the saying go "you can't get something from nothing"? How do they get "DVD quality" from old film? How could it look any better than the original VHS quality?
Hmm...one more victim for that webcam hijacking virus! Maybe that whole traffic control and street camera thing in The Italian Job will actually be possible! Imagine that...
waitaminute. who actually has time to leave the house to go game somewhere else? why on earth would you leave the safety and security of your 100% sunlight free cave of an apartment or bedroom to game somewhere else, and pay extra, and possibly *shudder* socialize and the real world? isn't the point of gaming just to ensure that geeks everywhere never see the outside world? or did i just miss something?
Despite how critical I am of developments like this, I have to say that those videos and the pictures are amazing. This technology could actually be implemented, it seems ready by the look and tone of the article, and thats pretty rare on Slashdot. Most newer technologies featured on/. always seems unlikely and full of holes, but this one seems a lot more solid.
Like the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I'd say the video more like a million. And those pictures show quite a bit. Plus the over-exposed headlights picture is a pretty cool way to demonstrate within a picture. But of course the video shows it all. And i think its amazing.
as soon as bush sees this he's gonna try to make a middle eastern country an "electricity conglomerate". soon electric prices will be right up there with the gas prices.
So he writes a program to do something that lawyers will obviously get on his case for, and then tells a ton of people
However, I would be surprised if they offered such a feature, simply because of things like this. It's just one more way for people to try and do things legally but get hit by DRM and whatnot. It's becoming unpopular business.
well of course he was using word...the whole thing is really an advertisment by microsoft...check back at this "blog" in a few weeks and see if its actually a blog. it smells entirely like a microsoft job to me..
Despite the size argument, if you actually read the story, the picture on otware's website shows that the holographic disk is cleary bigger, albiet not by much.
Not to mention if you wanted diameter, what kind of geek are you if you measure it right away? You have to use some type of un-stretchable wire to get the circumference, and use good old C = Pi times D!
Apple's official claim was the first 64 bit personal computer. I forgot to mention that
surely we've had 64bit (UltraSparc) workstations since the mid-90s?
Of course Ultrasparc workstations aren't designed with grandma and grandpa in mind. Then again neither is the Apple G5. (I'm flipflopping more than Kerry on Iraq on this) In fact anyone using 64bit "proSESEES" (as Jobs likes to pronounce it), could use probably be using an ultrasparc...
I've got a 128bit "computer" right now (Play Station 2) - surely that would count against Apple's claim?
Its a good point, and game consoles today are certainly computers in my mind...I have no idea about that one.
It's nice to finally see a government agency working against a major corporation effectively. The ASA's case against Apple was a prime example, they might have been right, but a., they had no documentation, and b., there are too many ways in which an entire computer can be the "fastest of them all".
Of course, the ASA did agree they broke the 4gb ram barrier, and that it was the first 64bit computer. So Apple deserves some credit.
because the ipod tends to corrupt data, especially when used in conjucntion with windows...my experiences with it were terrible, xp most likely to blame...
plus apple might do somthing stupid and create an update that prevents already loaded non-music data from being read...that scared me until i did a soft reset...
Livejournal...damnit! If this is on my cluster its going down for awhile...

[looking at minimum requirments] Man, imagine a Beowu....Oh nevermind.....
sure this site will be /.ed soon....

One more country will now be classified as "nuyulur" by George Bush...
He should have just used us to slashdot them by posting a how to tutorial on installer a linux server in your skull! With color pictures!

Just my two cents.
