  1. Good Article on Has GNOME Become LAME? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Much like the infamous Halloween documents of past years, it shows the Gnome developers where to really concentrate their efforts. The Halloween documents and other FUD from Microsoft has shown Linus where he needs to work on the Linux kernel -- this is much of the same thing. It is a cry to fix certain parts of Gnome that definitely needs to be improved and at the same time, might bring Gnome back to its original calling, to be a damn good interface for *nix users.

  2. Parents Responsibility on GTA and Rating of Video Games · · Score: 1

It all really comes down to one issue. Who is really responsible for the raising of our children? Is it the government's job to set the rules and standards by which our children are raised or is it up to the parents? That's the issue at stake in many, many things. A hundred years ago, the state stayed out of the role of raising children. The have at the same time taken away much of the responsibility of the parents to raise children. Giving information to parents on the violence levels of games is a good thing, but to keep the parents from having the right to choose what their children will play or do is wrong. Whenever possible, more freedom is better than less.

Why not just disconnect the antenna?

  5. Can you blame them? on Microsoft Sinks Teeth Into New Orleans · · Score: 1

To be honest, can you really blame New Orleans? They obviously have found that they really need to replace their antiquated system. At the same time, Microsoft offered to develop software and make sure it works for free for now. Yes, New Orleans might have to give money to Microsoft in the future, but given budgetary constraints, efficient use of taxpayer money and other concerns, it is probably a good deal for New Orleans. You have to realize that the politicians need to get something done in this current term of office.... money that must be spent two or three terms from now is not important.

What is wrong with putting in a full 8 hours of work and then going home? The US has an 40 hour work week. This is what the high tech industry has truly forgotten. Companies can not expect people to work more than that for long periods of time withouit the productivity of workers to go so far downhill that they are actually behind. If a company is too cheap to higher more workers than that is not a place I want to work.

  11. Re:Why oh why? on U.S. Gov. Space/Air Force Possible Plans For Future · · Score: 2

The reason that space appears to be the next area of confrontation is because it is the one of a few next great economic development areas. Every economic development area throughout time has been fought over at some point. Oil, coal, religion, food, etc have all been fought over. Space will be an area where great development will occur in the next 20-50 years and there will be people who want to take advantage of investments the US have put into space. The Air Force has to position itself now for funding in 10-20 years to develop the weapons that take 10-15 years to build. This is just a document that was released a couple of years ago to get the Air Force leaders and current young officers and NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) to think about the future might hold. It is also kind of a power grab of the Air Force over the other forces for money. The Air Force is claiming Space as its domain. It is saying that if Congress wants to spend money on space, it should go to the Air Force because the Air Force has the best ideas for space and has a clear path towards developing US assets.
