    The first thing that came to my mind was voice mail. Yeah, I know it's anything but "high speed" when it hits my ear, but the phone messages are stored digitally and transmited via fibre to subscribers, so I'd say the phone company is infringing...

    I would LOVE to see them try enforcing against the phone companies.

    The minute they start selling copies of OS X86 to the general public, they've become software sellers, not computer sellers.

    Who the hell would buy a Mac if you could run all the software on a $600 beige-box PC?

    Call duration, origin, destination I know of for sure. I suspect the log is only preserved if you hit a threshold in frequency of calls, duration, etc. In this jurisdiction, actual monitoring of content would be illegal without the knowledge of one of the participants, so I doubt very much they record anything.

    Not much concern about that either. If you want a job here, you sign (and re-sign regularly) a systems usage agreement that prohibits using it for anything but work. period.

    No, I don't do the logging, but the software that does it never sleeps. Among other things, SPI with an eye to preventing espionage and watching for potty mouth. Just log into a clear-text web-mail provider and post something like "My boss is a dense prick.." - You'd be talking to HR about it a few days later.

    Even if your webmail uses https or even if you tunnel, you are not private. If you're typing on your employer's box, what's stopping them from keylogging? screenshoting you?

    I know my managers have read access to my mail. I know my managers have acccess to my phone logs and I know they have remote monitoring/keylogging software used exceptionally (IE installed if they want your ass fired and need a reason). The only difference between me and you might be that I know about it and you don't. You might even work for my company.

    BZZZZZT wrong. (at least in my jurisdiction) Absolutely everything is subject to monitoring. Just because they don't mention it, doesn't mean it isn't noticed.

    If the Mac users I have interacted with are a fair sample, I expect Mac users steal 30% less not 30% more. Further correlation (or coincidence?) go someplace like garage games where the majority of their sales are Mac versions..

    FWIW, I don't own or use a Mac. I just think the demographic that purchases Macs are more likely to actually pay for their software as well.

    Yeah, I agree that it's a misleading to anounce compliance when what they really mean is "you can take this and make it compliant, but it won't be anytime soon you can patch and recompile IE.

    You're right. I think there is a direct correlation between how much stuff is actually in the power supply and whether it's worth a sh*t or not. If it weighs like a bag of marshmallows, pitch it.

    Until it does. Then buying a decent power supply seems like a great idea.

    It never ceases to amaze me that people will put $1000+ worth of MB, RAM, Drives, Vid card in a case they paid 30 bucks for including power supply. That makes the PS worth what? 15 bucks? really bad place to save money.

    If you're interested in running your vehicle on biodeisel or straight vegatable oil, it's a good place to start reading. Very interesting stuff..

    I think most /. readers will agree with that. Whoever was tasked with implementing the system made a bad choice. Whoever (if anyone) was responsible for risk assesment for the project missed something too. There should be ample blame to pass around.

    The students got hammered, yeah. It's entirely possible some employees also got disciplinary notices/poor quarterly reviews or whatever. We just aren't likely to see details of it in a public forum...

    I find many of the sites telling me to "upgrade" to IE (upgrade - wtf?) work just fine in FF or Konquerer once the user agent string is spoofed. Most of the "IE only" sites out there aren't doing anything that actually requires IE or windows...

    IF you're still using IE for compatibility with these sites, try Konquerer it is extremely easy to spoof browsers with it...

    I'm curious how this reports out in the user agent string? Not that the http_user_agent string is worth sh*t for determining browser capabilities, but many web developers channel (or deny) content based on the reported UA.

    The last two accounts I opened had buried in the small print that the bank could hold my cash for 30-60 days AFTER I ask for it.

    I doubt very much this happens often, but it does happen - I have family who lost a house deal over a wire transfer held for 60 days.. Cash in the bank, earned free and clear, but held nonetheless. If one of the Banks decides to fuck you over, you'll stand a better chance negotiating with Vinnie...
