I think Mac OS X would be open-source except that it is impossible to tie an open-source OS to certain hardware. The only problem Apple really has with open-source OS X is that people would have it running on non-Apple hardware which would really hurt Apple.
Is your Internet BS pseudo-science scale protected by some form of intellectual property law? I would very much like to use it to make some jokes with, but I don't want to run into any problems by infringing on your intellectual property.
The funny thing is the Imperial March just came on randomly in iTunes as I was reading your comment.
Yeah yeah, I listen to songs form the Star Wars soundtrack, what's it to you?

I don't think so. Disposable income doesn't just mean that you have some cash sitting somewhere. It means that you are making more money than you need to spend. So while buying the iPod costs money, since the person has disposable income their next paycheck gives them another surplus of money. In this scenario, they can use that money to legally buy music.
However, god forbid you put Janet Jackson's partially exposed breast on the screen for a millisecond. Then the FCC comes down on you like a ton of bricks.
I think the MTA is trying to protect the "look" of MTA maps. The font MTA uses and the colored circles with numbers and letters in them do have a certain look to them. So the logistical information is free, but the MTA wants to protect the "look" of how it is presented.
The only reason I can think they want to do this is so they can charge advertisers who use the MTA's "look" in ads.

Well, duh! I mean with the Mac's huge market-share it has price setting power. When Apple used PPC chips IBM had to convert entire countries into factories to create enough chips to satisfy demand. This resulted in overproduction and lower prices. Now that Apple uses x86 that fringe company Intel is finally making enough chips that prices can come down. Its all economies of scale really. Apple computers will always be cheaper, one of the perks of 95% market-share.
The cable company story doesn't really seem comparable. Cable companies have a lot of leverage on content and it is a hassle for people to switch cable companies. However, it is very easy for people to buy music from a different store than iTMS.
I would prefer a small nuclear device built into the robot. Maybe it could do a little robot dance before it detonated and vaporized the burglars...... and all my stuff.
I am not sure I agree with you on this. At T=0 the Shuttle and the tank are not moving so the foam would pick up speed only from gravitational acceleration however drag from the atmosphere would slow it down. However, once T>0 the shuttle and the tank are moving really fast. So now the foam is accelerating from gravity, but instead of drag slowing the foam down it is picking up lots of speed by being pushed on by the rapidly moving air in between the shuttle and the tank. Although I guess at a certain point the shuttle is moving so fast that the foam us beneath the shuttle before it has time to collide with it. Just a thought.
In the end will just become another of the long list of reasons why have no friends and are the butt of many a joke...
These could be used for lots of things.

Darwin is open-source though.

It is a very nice problem to have.

"On a lighter note, the medics didn't find anything wrong with me, and I've chalked it up to stress / coffee ;)."
Meanwhile someone else died because the medics were at your house. Just kidding. Glad you're alright.
I think 10 to 100 kilometers is a pretty good estimate considering it is something like 180,000,000 kilometers away.
I'll be happy when the majority of stuff has switched over to PNG.
Let this company keep on giving people a hard time about JPEG.
Right. Slashdot is just like Playboy. They are identical. I can't tell the difference sometimes.
How about companies stop developing these drugs since they can't enforce the patents on them. Who wins then?
I think comparing Saab and Apple is completely reasonable.
Hopefully GM will sell Saab to Renault and things will get better.

I'm not sure how people would feel about their tax dollars going to the Nazi party.

What? What's that you say?
Oh, in this universe......
If it's any consolation, you can use the shuffle as a jump drive and MP3 player. The Nano needs a dock.
I still don't see how this is Apple's fault.

Apple does not have monopsony power.

I think you are referring to the show "The Mighty Douche".
