Not only late but obsolete. The cable industry resisted and killed cablecard so we all looked for a way to bypass them: the internet.
Youtube proved the tech and bandwidth are there when they netcasted U2 live from the Rose Bowl to millions around the world.
For $150 you can buy blueray players with plugins to play live streams from providers such as netflix.
It is just a matter of months before cable channels start bypassing the cable industry and sell direct subscriptions to their live HD stream (is Mark Cuban reading this?)
Better tell the FCC to find a better use for our tax money.
That segment of "The Daily Show" can't be more right: Their news anchors are supposed to have degrees in journalism yet don't bother to challenge anything somebody they are interviewing clearly pulled up his ass.
They are lazy: they mention some news, then bring pundits for opinions but since they don't do any research on their own, they cannot challenge what the pundits say.
I stopped watching 24 Hr news networks for that reason: I want news, not opinions or speculation on what color of underwear the first lady is going to wear to the next presidential event.
If CNN is to survive, they need to reinvent themselves and that Daily Show segment is giving them a blueprint on what a good news network should do.
Just skimmed through it just to find some of the typical misconceptions that are feeding the obesity epidemic:
- If you burn more calories than you eat, you lose weight: WRONG, insulin triggers fat storage, keep it low (with low carb diet) and excess calories go straight down the drain. - Ketones are toxic: WRONG, human body is designed to operate mainly using ketones as fuel
This is always a problem with brand new OSs, and drivers are always a pain in the ass. Installing a Creative X-Fi driver required around 5 reboots, and sever jaunts to the internet to get the full features. Driver devs haven't quite jumped on the bandwagon of x64, much less Windows 7.
That is one of the things that pisses me the most about Windows, it takes several hrs to install everything you need on it. I just saw my brother taking a whole afternoon reinstalling XP to a laptop... and this is with the damn recovery CD.
With Ubuntu on the other hand I pop the CD, answer 4 questions and 10 mins later the system is up and ready to go, no need to hunt for drivers or toolbar crap.
That guys trolls about "major design flaws" on a website that was slapped together within a month of President Obama taking office... gimme a break.
The fact that a government operation was able to put that information out that quickly is just impressive and unprecedented.
I wonder if TFA author would be able to put together a website of such scope and functionality in such short amount of time... and without any bugs when he claims to have "spent way too much time" troubleshooting just the pie chart.
Maybe he works for the shop that came second on the bid?
SCRUM like other Agile methodologies is about self managing teams, that means the "team lead" or "manager" positions are no longer needed. The team makes all decisions concerning the project they deliver. This is the key point and the hardest for everybody to understand. People don't like having to let go of their power.
The scrummaster is just a facilitator of the process and it is highly recommended for him to go through scrummaster certification training. A properly trained scrummaster can lead several SCRUM teams. Hire a experienced scrummaster and send your senior developers back to what they do the best.
The fact is, your body runs on carbs (glucose). Thats ALL your brain can use, and your body will go to great lenghts to make it if you don't take in carbs... but the side effects are severly unhealthy.

The Atkins diet book claims the opposite: the body (including your brain) runs better on ketones
I am not saying which side is correct but I would like to see a peer-reviewed study proving either theory.
People doing ketosis will usually have a carb up once per week
Not quite, at least what Atkins proposes is that you regulate your weight gain/loss by increasing/decreasing your daily carb intake while ingesting a high-fat diet, in short:
Start with 20g of carbs a day for 2 weeks (induction phase, to deplete your glycocen reserves)
Add 5g carbs a week until you no longer lose weight, subtract 5g to it, that is your Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) carb amount (if you no longer losing weight at 60g carbs a day, then 55g is OWL)
Keep eating your daily OWL carbs until you reach your weight goal.
People who feel like shit on keytosis diets are most likely not doing it right
Correct, the key to trigger ketosis is HIGH FAT, about 60% of your daily calories must come from fat. This is the most controversial point of his diet due to the never-proven medical belief that "eating fat makes you fat".
Dr. Atkins clearly wrote in that book that you should not keep induction phase forever, nor you should stop eating carbs at all. It just tells you that you can eat as many calories as you like as long as most of them are from fat while keeping carbs in check. Also high-protein doesn't work, he claims excess protein gets metabolized into glucose making the diet counterproductive.
I am not disputing thermodynamics here, what I am disputing is the dogma that our body will store all excess calories as fat... has that been scientifically proven?
Can you please point us to a published peer-reviewed scientific study proving that statement?
Seriously, every single "diet" including the Food Pyramid recommended by our government are based on ideas that "make sense" with little scientific proof.
The problem is Eve servers were (unfortunately) developed to run over Windows Servers. The first releases of their code probably had big memory leaks on top of Microsoft's ones so they came out with this daily reboot procedure to keep all that in check.
Maybe everything is more stable now, in fact I think in the last few months most of Eve's daily downtimes are as low as 5 minutes.
I still don't understand why they picked windows to run their servers... I believe most of their server code is in python. Linux would've been a natural option.
You probably got your appendix removed years ago, got antibiotics and eat a high carb diet... recipe for Candida overgrowth. It sucks and takes a while to get back in control.
Without appendix there is no way to repopulate your intestinal bacteria to its natural levels so Candida (also naturally living there) grows out of control.
"Fat cells secrete chemicals that cause chronic, low-level inflammation that can hamper the body's immune response and narrow the airways, says Tim Armstrong, a doctor working in the WHO's chronic diseases department in Geneva."
[Citation Needed] Where is the peer-reviewed study proving this assertion?
Doctors have the tendency of coming up with big pieces of bullshit out their asses without any scientific proof for them... they recommended the food pyramid without being able to prove the dogma that "a high-carb, low fat diet reduces body fat and cholesterol".
Doctors all over the world keep saying "fat is evil" without any proof when recent studies of human metabolism are showing the human body seems to function better on a high-fat, low-carb diet.
Some of EA's disk copy protections doesn't work through wine, Simcity 3000 as an example, a classic I would like to play every once in a a while. I bought a copy of it for like a penny at Fry's but can't play it:-(
I would buy this new one if it works through wine, no way I am installing any Microsoft crap at home just to play a game.
Yes, before I "discovered" that damn game I was going out several nights a week, wasting my money in pussy and beer. Now I wake up and fire up my 3 clients, get to work late, come back and fire them up again until I drop asleep.
After more than a year with this routine I have already paid-off 3 formerly maxed-out credit cards (2 more to go). All for $35/month.
I watched the first season, it was ok. On the second season I started fast forwarding the drama scenes, then the recordings started pilling up unwatched in my mythtv box. I would pass on watching it for some reason. A couple months ago I watched another episode, then decided it sucked so I deleted all unwatched ones and canceled the schedule.
After long days at work I want to sit down and relax watching some mindless tv, don't want to be thinking or trying to remember wtf was this plot about. This series could have been so much better with less drama and more action scenes.
Take the latest Start Trek movie as an example of mindless entertainment well done. Hope somebody comes out with a tv series following that formula.
In the early 70s, the government spent millions in scientific studies to support the "food pyramid" with inconclusive results. They went on with the recommendation anyways and somehow population started getting fat.
Our whole food industry is based on a unproven government recommendation to the point is hard to find high-fat foods in the supermarket anymore, everything is low-fat with a bunch of sugar on it.
It kinda makes sense: don't want to get fat?, then don't eat fat. Don't want cholesterol?, avoid foods with cholesterol. But studies on human metabolism are showing the opposite is true: a high-fat, low-carb diet (Atkins kind) helps reduce weight and cholesterol levels... weird, uh?
I excised Microsoft from my home 4 years ago first using Fedora, Centos and later Ubuntu. During that period every time slashdot had an Eve history I would check their website out, say "cool, internet spaceships, does it run on linux?"... then dismiss the history and read the next one.
I recall googling for Eve in Linux a couple times, found info about running it with Wine and dismissed that considering it a hack, I was not going to pay a subscription to play a game in a non supported way (feared that WoW./ history where linux players were being kicked for running with Wine)
I tried Eve a couple months after their Linux client was released and got hooked. After experiencing lag and slow FPS I upgraded my trusty years old sempron with GeForce 6200 to a decent Athlon X2, GeForce 8600. A week later I tried premium client under Wine and that was that. I never went back to the "official" linux client.
My point here is the progression that led me to use it with Wine. Now I know it works just fine, is not a hack and it run even more stable than in Windows. There must be other linux users out there thinking the same way I do.
CCP would have never had me as a 3 account customer if they don't release that crappy linux client. Now I am hooked and not quitting unless they screw the client so much it doesn't run with wine anymore.
Why am I playing Eve instead of WoW or any other MMORPG?... They are the only ones that released a linux client.
If you want to keep it simple, take a look at basecamp (www.basecamphq.com).

PA seems to work fine on my Ubuntu 9.04 x64. It's just I like to play games and wine devs have no plans to write any code to support it properly.
Ok, I guess is time to start looking at alternatives. Not saying I will switch but I better keep options open.
Any user-friendly, easy to install linux distribution like Ubuntu around? (Fedora need not to apply, btw)
Preferably one without that pulseaudio crap installed by default...
Chronic fatigue?, brain fog?

That's no way to live, the fact you ask this over here means deep inside you already know the answer is to get another job.
I rather get paid less (as long as it is enough) in exchange for free time to live life.
