We probably visit wildly different kinds of web pages, as I can't remember when I last had any trouble because of Ablock+. Some pages have notices asking you to whitelist, but the main content isn't hidden.
FWIW, I subscribe to EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy's Social Blocking List and Adblock Warning Removal List.
Hearing other viewpoints I consider very valuable. Sharing my view with others on the other hand seems quite pointless. It can feel good to have someone across the world agree with me, but that's about it. Of course it's good that not everyone thinks like I do, because there wouldn't be much to read or listen in that case.
As it happens, I generally listen and read a lot more than I speak or write.
There are no maturity requirements to run a company.
I'm not as optimistic as you are about his predictions. Just about every company seems to use Facebook nowadays, brick-and-mortar shops have images of Facebook's Like button on their windows, and plenty of job postings include Facebook links. Smaller companies don't even have their own web pages, they just use Facebook. I also wouldn't be sure that everybody even knows Facebook's internal messaging systems and e-mail are completely different animals. Messenger and ICQ were tiny compared to Facebook today. I don't use it myself, and don't want to sign up in order to apply for a job, but I'm afraid it's not implausible.
I disagree; if all ads were as small and inconspicuous as these are, I would even consider getting rid of Adblock altogether to support the content providers. I prefer these instead of banners, even if the links do break up the flow somewhat.
I don't see how the parent post is any proof that the poster is working for any government, party or similar political group. Bashing the US is fun for many trolls, and people don't generally need compensation to do something they have fun doing.
I guess it feels that way because smartphone operating systems are only supported for a short time. If Microsoft released new versions of Windows annually and ended support for old releases in a year or two, Windows 7 would be considered old too.
I wonder if smartphone operating systems will reach the "Windows XP spot" anytime soon. The devices themselves probably won't last ten years except for the most careful owners.
If this is true, where does the widespread notion that nobody reads the documentation come from? Do customers demand documentation for the sake of having it? Or maybe I'm not the only one who reads documentation after all. (Well, I do read it more often than not:-))
Even if that were true, it wouldn't be a GPL-only issue. Nobody who had ever written code for commercial use could ever change jobs again because they might accidentally copy something and their new employer would be in trouble.
Copyright law most probably isn't quite that insane... yet.
It's true that funky names are ubiquitous in the free software world, and I often wish developers came up with something better. But unhelpful names aren't limited to FOSS. What would your grandmother (if she's familiar with computers, pick another relative:-)) guess Adobe Acrobat does? Or Microsoft Silverlight? Windows? Visual Studio?
That same filesync software just messed up all of your other files too, so you just restore them to an earlier, good state. I'm not really a fan of meaningful whitespace either, but your scenario is solved by backups/version control, not change of language.
What about pictures of one's baby or young kid nude, is it illegal to send such images to the kids grandparents for example? It can be very hard to tell from just a picture whether abuse took place or not. Sometimes it's clear, and I hope the victims get all the help they need. But in other cases, would these automated systems mark the images as "child abuse" and get the parents in trouble? The topic is so heated that even slight suspicions can lead to big problems.
If I had cells of 5 people in a few states.... I could cause wide spread chaos and fear.
If you owned TV networks, newspapers and such you could do it very efficiently. You don't need to directly hurt anyone or mess around with bombs to cause terror.
Telling the customer to update the contact information and then calling the customer again is the only good method I can think of right now. Anything else relies on the customer giving out more or less sensitive information to the caller who may or may not be working for the bank.
I don't understand. I pay all my bills online with a wire transfer. If I didn't trust my bank to keep records of transactions why would I trust them with my money in the first place?
You don't have to be insanely lucky, just lucky enough to be born in a country with unemployment benefits. You'll have 24 hours each day to tinker with whatever you want. It has its moments, but you're right, it really isn't that great. However, the option is there if you value free time over a lot of things (some of which aren't material, like respect).
Why change the data and join a group if the profile just gets deleted afterwards? I'm not sure if you're kidding or not :-)
Besides, wouldn't this also require that all actions work through GET requests instead of POSTs?

It's likely that security isn't the OP's main concern. It rarely is.

This is a US-centric website, so the answer is yes.

Aren't they already trivially bypassable with money?
Isn't that just what this dad is doing? You just stated the same goal without telling how you would do it.

But the computers only do precisely what humans tell them to do. Maybe Skynet will fix this.

That's pretty interesting. Any idea what criteria they use for splitting between mobile or desktop content?

Also there's the fact that one company has the power to expunge whatever they don't like.
What difference would that make? All the same changes, released on the same schedule but using smaller numbers. I don't see why it matters.
People like to form a hive mind.
Another fine example of a /. meme :-)
