I didn't say it was. Slashdot made the announcement about Mono's imminent release (which turned out to be an announcement of a pending announcement -- slow news day I guess).

They've been talking about it for a while now and we haven't seen much materialize. Seems awfully vaporware-ish.
Hmm, I guess you haven't been keeping up with .NET then. I suggest you check out the .NET Development site. Maybe download the .NET Framework Beta for yourself and see how "awfully vaporware-ish" it is.

Take the wayback machine to 1996, the PlayStation was out and popular, and I was the chief software engineer on the multimedia arm of a little company called VTech. Every chance I got, I tried to convince the PHB's that that consoles (especially the PSX) could be leveraged into an inexpensive learning aid for resource-starved schools that couldn't afford PC's. I was almost kicked out of a meeting at E3/96 because I was just a little over-enthusiastic about the idea.

So it brings a smile to my face when I see someone actually doing it. Right on, guys!

Indiana Jones 4: The Calgary Sun talked with Steven Spielberg's producing partner Kathleen Kennedy who had some disheartening news for those eager to see a fourth Indy film: "The truth is there has been a lot of discussion amongst all of us connected with the film but to be honest there is no script because there isn't even a writer in place. It sounds like a slam dunk to do another Indiana Jones but you have to get everyone available and committed and then you have to get a screenplay that excites everyone. It seems that Kodak's installer isn't registering itself with the system correctly. The software that comes with the Powershot S100 (from Canon) runs fine under XP.

Additionally, XP is beta code (insert "Duh!" here). It's not exactly unheard-of for software designed for previous versions of any operating system to have problems on new, beta versions. Isn't it just a little disturbing that Kodak is threatening to unleash lawyers before the XP now? Shouldn't they wait for the release, then if it still overrides their settings and they're absolutely sure its not a malfunction in their install process, then they should consider legal action.

I absolutely agree. I don't want to come across as implying that all Linux users are zealots. I do lament that due to a vocal minority, it's easy for folks to make the assumption that they are representative of the Linux community in general.

This is something I've been pondering for a while. As a group, the *BSD folk seem to be happy to coexist with other systems while the majority of (vocal) Linux supporters are hell-bent on Linux World Domination and if you're not 100% on board the Destroy Microsoft bandwagon, then you are the enemy. The phrase "use the best tool for the job" in some peoples minds has been interpreted as "use the best tool for the job... so long as it's Linux".

There are zealots everywhere -- hell, I know people who go absolutely rabid if you get coffee from Starbucks instead of Seattles Best -- but sometimes it just seems the Linux users could learn a thing or two about tolerance from their *BSD cousins.
