The days of living in reality are LONG gone. A perfect driving record is merely luck. You should have had an accident by now according to all of the indicators; therefore, you need to be charged more.
I bought a MBP for essentially the same reasons; however, I have grown tired of having everyone fucking tracking me, the government having back doors into all my shit, and essentially, having the core behavior of the operating system controlled by someone else. Which is why I reject systemd. Even though systemd is open source, it is forcing a whole "new" (actually, old in comparison to Windows) core behavior that is essentially against me fully controlling it.
Regardless, Windows 10 was the tipping point for me as far as corporate control goes. I gave away my last MBP a few months ago and run Linux exclusively. My main computers are a custom built desktop system and a Dell XPS 13 laptop. Both ran Linux Mint Cinnamon flawlessly. Actually, the XPS is still Mint Cinnamon. The desktop is now CentOS 7.2 so I can try "embracing" systemd to understand why it has such wild amounts of support from the "top".
It is buggy. I am constantly barraged by timeouts and other garbage.
Sorry, was rambling. Long story short, find a distro without systemd and the few bugs that you see are worth it to escape from corporate control and monitoring. That is my 2 cents worth.
I have zero problems with my 1080 display. The text looks fine and is not blurry.
Be honest with yourself when doing this: Place a 4k monitor and a 1080p monitor side by side with lots of text showing.
Your 1080p monitor is far superior to the 13 inch television (CRT, not LCD) that I had to use a monitor way back when, but if asked, I would have said that the 13 television works... just as you are saying your 1080p monitor works.
A friend came over to my place one day semi-recently. He walked in my door and could see my monitor from the doorway, about 8 meters away. Immediately he exclaimed that my monitor was very different than his. I explained it was a 4k monitor and he immediately went out and bought one.
Could he see the pixels from 25 feet away? Definitely not. Could he still tell the difference between 4k and 1080p from 25 feet away? Certainly.
Honestly, 4k is supremely better but in an overall sense, it is only one more step on the way to photorealism. My 4k monitor is still less than 300 DPI... and 600 DPI is closer to the ultimate goal.
Give up your absurd 1080p monitor, get a 4k monitor, and hope that they get to 600 DPI before you die. The lack of DPI may not consciously affect you, and it certainly does not consciously affect many others; however, the lack of clarity is absurdly evident once you examine the folks who get headaches and fatigue from trying to do edge detection on low-DPI monitors. (edge detection is how we identify letters and objects in our brains)
It's just fancy pattern-matching, because that's all we can do at this point.

Meh. Anything Microsoft touches is garbage. Upper management cares about something, but they do NOT care about the experience of using their software. I feel bad for all of the software engineers there that surely must have lost their will to live by now. Of course, the nice pay helps to make it all palatable but what a soul destroying job it must be to never create anything that is awesome... and if you do create something awesome, some manager somewhere decides that some political agenda must be encoded into the product, thereby ruining all of the great efforts that were put into it.
A few years ago, I had a phone. It was the Nokia N900. It essentially ran Linux on it. I was able to install arbitrary "Linux" applications on it. If I could have connected that to an external monitor, I would have had the perfect computing device.
But meh. They make more money by not giving us what we want.

I have a Dell XPS 13 with a 4k (close but not really) screen. It runs Linux flawlessly without any need for proprietary drivers. The screen resolution is claimed to be 4k but it is actually not quite 4k. Still, it is a fairly high resolution screen, MUCH better than 1920x1080.
What more do you need? Pure open source software stack from top to bottom, high resolution screen, reasonable keyboard for a laptop, lightweight, great battery life etc etc etc.
The 15 inch screen version may be more your style but short of playing games (intel graphics), it should be everything you need in a development laptop. I am currently running Linux Mint Cinnamon on it but you can use your distro of choice. CentOS, Slackware, and Arch have all been on the laptop.
Oh. They also offer a Linux developers version of the laptop that comes with Ubuntu shipped on it.

This is so weird. I am 49 years old and I have never seen a female discouraged from math at school or otherwise. Supposedly, the 70s, when I was going to elementary school, it was the height of females being discouraged from doing non-female things.
It is odd how during that time frame, the female teachers were busy helping the female students while essentially ignoring the male students and giving absolutely no encouragement at all to me or my fellow male students. There were 5 people in my classes from kindergarten to 4th grade who excelled. 4 were females and then there was me. The girls all got constant loving attention while, despite my scores always being higher, was ignored.

I have been trying for 20 years to make a programming language that at least clearly demonstrates the ability of a function to overwrite its boundaries, clearly shows code that will never be hit, etc., but this is extremely hard to do. My imagination is close to sufficient, but not sufficient enough for this task.
Many people have been on the right track with tools such as the venerable flow diagram or UML or even some of the graphical design tools but these are utterly insufficient except to guide the architect. They have no intelligence built in.
Ah well, hopefully someone will come up with a language that is better than C one of these days.

This is so weird. I am 49 years old and I have never seen a female discouraged from math at school or otherwise. Supposedly, the 70s, when I was going to elementary school, it was the height of females being discouraged from doing non-female things.
It is odd how during that time frame, the female teachers were busy helping the female students while essentially ignoring the male students and giving absolutely no encouragement at all to me or my fellow male students. There were 5 people in my classes from kindergarten to 4th grade who excelled. 4 were females and then there was me. The girls all got constant loving attention while, despite my scores always being higher, was ignored.
It was time for college in the mid 80s. They were grants and loans available for women and minorities, but for me, there was shit available. Needless to say, since I could not even afford the paperwork fees, much less college itself, I did not go to college.
Regardless, computers and communications between computers was/is a passion for me. I am now a highly paid Senior Security Engineer. No college, brief military service, and lots of suffering, but I am where many people would like to be.

This may be true... but I would be terrified of the American government if they were upset at me. It is clear that they have no reason to follow the laws that they are supposed to be following and if such a reason does happen, they are prepared with every excuse imaginable to say their behavior is lawful.

Until computer implementations include features like tagged memory and hardware array bounds checking they will never be truly secure. Some problems cannot be addressed by an isolated software layer: they can only be made secure by hardware enforcement of fundamental features that prohibit some classes of software errors.
Hardware is essentially "frozen" software. If you can make perfect hardware, then you can make perfect software. Result:

While I would agree that programmers should have safety related features available to them, shit like Python and JavaScript have gone way out into left field.
I have been trying for 20 years to make a programming language that at least clearly demonstrates the ability of a function to overwrite its boundaries, clearly shows code that will never be hit, etc., but this is extremely hard to do. My imagination is close to sufficient, but not sufficient enough for this task.
Many people have been on the right track with tools such as the venerable flow diagram or UML or even some of the graphical design tools but these are utterly insufficient except to guide the architect. They have no intelligence built in.
Ah well, hopefully someone will come up with a language that is better than C one of these days.
