I live on NSA, let 'em come. From my time spent in the AF, I cant imagine violent crime being high on base. However, its possible to imagine a large number of petty offenses, as the military is pretty hard on some things, such as speeding on base.

"Still, if several armed men come into your house to take you away and kill, one would expect at least some would try to grab a gun from one to shoot the others." Because we all know how effective that is... Ive got a couple years of martial arts training and hold a variety of firearm certifications. Id estimate that to be one of the most stupid things you could do under the circumstances.

A medium-large maple tree looses about 600,000 leaves in the fall. Barring statistically insignifigant anomalys, such as leaves that remain, and new leaves that grow after falling begins, this should be about right. Your guess was probably closer than anyone elses, and still well short.

Theres very little evidence that either the senate or the electoral college were created out of a distrust of the common citizens vote. More importantly, is a system of government based on a fear of its citizens opinions a good thing? I argue that the electoral college is outdated, based on the needs of the past, and all of a states electoral votes should automatically be awarded to the winner of the popular election, or a system such as a few states already use, where electoral votes are split based on the popular vote. Many governmental practices are seen as nessessary and just simply because they've been around so long, and I feel this is one of them. As far as security in post-revolutionary USA was concerned, an elector was far superior to entrusting masses of votes to random postmen, who really weren't hired with voting in mind. Not to mention, the inefficiency of the process...

I'll vouch for that. I live in the area and tried driving there once...I'll never do it again. A huge area is boarded up around the white house as well...tough as heck to get a good picture. Dunno if its intentional or not, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. As for being searched, Id suggest you carry not one, but several books with titles referencing hacking, terrorism, and weapons. If you've got a lisenced weapon, carry it! Im sure they wont give a law-abiding citizen any grief.

Note that if you take any 2d slices(where one dimension is the one not applicable to the rubber band) of the 3d sphere and rubber band converging, you'll notice two points converging... This might be over-simplification, but it appears a similar view would be applicable to your solution. So long as one of the dimensions of the 3-d "slice" contains the one the 3-d band is not in, all is well. I see no reason why this would not hold true for an apple of x dimensions, where the band around consists of x-1 dimensions.

I agree...if you intend to go to the trouble to archive humanity, you may as well get some separation there. However, I doubt this plan could really be seen as practical. Given the apparent lack of evidence for other life forms, the odds that any given "ark" would ever be brought to life(let alone the strand of human DNA out of the myriad forms of life in the capsule) before being destroyed are extremely slim. Use the resources to help spread humanity itself, making us more resilient as a species. I don't really see a reason we couldn't have a station on the moon if we were prepared to drop some cash for it...

The problem arises when the customer doesn't know how to express what he needs... You'll know what Im talking about when you get assignments like "we want a new database, kind of like the old one, but better. What? Whats source code? I dunno, make it faster and make it do more." Requirements and initial design docs are a process of letting the coders find out what the customer actually needs(or thinks he does). Now, do businesses mutilate this process horribly? Yes...
