  1. First things first... on Wharton Professor Says America Should Shorten the Work Day By 2 Hours (cnbc.com) · · Score: 1

Before we start talking about reducing the 40-hour work week, let's start talking about and acting upon how to get the current work week to 40 hours.

Typically in the past whenever the music industry talks about compensation for the music writers or performers they are not speaking about the writers or performers of the music, but the music companies that own the rights to the music. Now I see a new word, "creators," and I wonder if anything has changed, or has the music industry once again purchased Congress to increase the income of the music industry while giving a mere pittance or nothing at all to the artists who write and perform the music.

  5. ... Why do we measure in lines of code? Serious question. ...

Some metrics have as their base the number of lines of code. In and of itself, LoC is pretty meaningless. Other views which use LoC, however, can be quite useful.

  18. Probably more correct than comical... on TiVo Says It Will Discontinue Support For Dial-up Service Later This Month (betanews.com) · · Score: 2

...Comically, the company suggests two alternatives -- use Ethernet or buy a Wi-Fi adapter. Look, while those are technically accurate options, if someone is still using dial-up connectivity with their TiVo in 2018, they probably don't have broadband access. ...

The summary writer, in an effort to try to make himself look knowledgeable, overlooks an important aspect --- the TiVo customer may still be using dial-up instead of the Internet access available in the house because of one simple reason --- dial-up works and has worked. It just worked, so why fix it by switching it over to the Internet?

  19. ... Think about it. "damn I wish this screen was smaller" ...

I have thought about it. For me a slightly larger bag is far less expensive than the purchase of a new shiny object. The "I don't want a larger bag" seems to me more like you're trying to find a justification, any justification, to buy a new shiny object. :) But that's just me.

Perhaps the move to "faux-agile" (as you call it) is really more of a move towards actually solving the problems the customers have, and less of a desire to make sure the process to achieve those solutions has the correct name.

  22. To me, there appears to be very little, if anything, to Intel's credit in this whole CPU disaster. Performance instead of security. What a mess. How long will it be before there's an Intel CPU that is not inherently insecure? Will a whole new architecture need to be designed?
