    For some reason, many of the vendors all but insist I provide them my mobile phone number. I always refuse because I know that once I give out the phone number, my phone will start ringing with telemarketing calls. They vendors say they want the mobile phone number for back-up identification purposes, but I just do not believe them.

    One small step at a time. First only ads for other Netflix shows between episodes for a "segment" of the Netflix audience. Then all of the Netflix audience. Then showing ads for other Netflix shows at appropriate places within an episode. Then an "occasional" ad for non-Netflix content, but for something that the viewer will be interested in. Pretty soon, it takes 30 minutes to view a 22minutes episode of Netflix content.

    Why does the app have access to the SSN? Why not, e.g., hash what the customer enters and compare the hashes? Why not, e.g., send the entered SSN off to a different server that does not have internet access and is more secure?

    If you're going to put up a web-facing app, you should give that app access only to the data it needs. Why is a subscriber's SSN required for the app in question here?

    I'm concerned about reducing the amount of screen it uses when it is visible. I like having the toolbar visible because to hide and unhide the toolbar adds clicks to the use of the toolbar. Such a poor design. As I said, so poor that it prompted me to look at LibreOffice as an alternative. I moved to Libreoffice and have not looked back.

    As opposed to having the top-notch UI team at Microsoft that came up the screen-hogging ribbon toolbar? It was the awful UI of Microsoft Office that drove me to try, and stay with, LibreOffice.

    ...A more important question is why do you need a search engine in an email client and how to disable it....

    I frequently need to look up things that are in email messages. Having the search engine ability in an email client allows me to highlight the text i want to look up, and then select "search" from the resulting context menu. That's much easier and afster than having to copy and paste the text into a browser to use the search engine there.

    That statement is a total non-sequitur for me. Indeed, not having humans involved means that data can be slurped up all the more quickly.

    How can one swap google for bing as the Thunderbird search engine? The plug-in that had done that no longer works.
