Unfortunately, since only 6% of the world's population are native English speakers
I've been to countries where the people do not speak English "natively" and I have been very surprised that most of the people speak English (as their second language) better than many people here in the US. While English may not be the first language of a significant portion of the world, English is spoken and understood by a very significant portion of the world's population.
Facebook wants their UI to be difficult to navigate. The more time you spend trying to find what you're looking for, the more ads Facebook can present to you. The time you waste poking around the Facebook UI is actually a profit center for Facebook. Why would Facebook want to make it easier?
The poll results correlate well with my experiences. I've still not seen a well-functioning agile implementation that has been working for more than three to five years. Once maintenance is required for the undocumented code, and the developers who worked on it have left, the problems with agile start snowballing.
Indeed, Facebook's UI is too complex and dense for its own good. Profiles that use the timeline are nearly impossible to navigate easily. On the other hand, I do like Wikipedia's simple UI. Simple does not mean useless.
I doubt if the "waiting for Windows 8" effect is as strong as is suggested. Windows 8 is not really a PC OS, it is more of a touch-screen OS. So why would PC users wait to buy a PC with Windows 8.
.
I would think that PC users would be hurrying to upgrade before they can no longer get Windows 7 pre-installed.
VoIP allows the robocallers to move around and hide themselves very easily. Trying to stop the robocallers is worse than whack-a-mole. The robocalls have gotten so bad that I now let the answering machine screen all my incoming calls. Oh, and naturally, if the FTC does decide to put into place new rules, be aware that political robocalls will be exempt.
His sight is the king of the sensationalist headlines to generate traffic crowd. Then there are the Murdoch tabloid newspapers with their sensationalist headlines, also using the headlines to sell dead trees.
The common perception among Slashdotters is that while Bill Gates may cause us some professional difficulties, he makes up for it with an exemplary philanthropic record.
That may be the perception of some (especially those who are paid to monitor various discussion boards and rebut any negative comments about Mr. Gates), but I'd be reluctant to say it was a common perception.
imo, Microsoft, under Mr. Gates' direction, raped an industry and its customers, directing excessive profits into his own coffers. And now he is trying to rewrite history so that he is portrayed in a better light by using that stolen money for philanthropic purposes. It does not appear to be working.
Apple hasn't changed the model, they've just hidden the price of the software.
Which is exactly what Microsoft will be doing with their new tablet, with Microsoft making the hardware on which their OS will be running, the price of the Windows OS will be hidden in the price of the tablet. Microsoft could not compete in the previous model of selling the expensive OS atop cheap hardware. It had to switch to selling the OS and hardware combined, the model that Apple has been using in the mobile space
The market changed from Microsoft's old model of expensive software on cheap hardware to Apple's current model of free or inexpensive software on expensive hardware.
.
In other words, Apple did not just facilitate the paradigm shift towards mobile devices, Apple changed the entire strategic fiscal structure of the market.
Microsoft's hardware entourage had to be cut free. It would not be the first time Microsoft has left the decaying bodies of its partners behind, after sucking all the profits and life out of them.

What did you expect him to say... that an Intel product was not suitable for the mobile marketplace? That would have been career suicide for him. He is singing from the Intel songbook. Those songs may not be sung with what is best for the customer in mind.
'Massena Police Chief Timmy Currier said he returned it to the owner, but wouldn't say how he knew who the owner was, nor would he say who he gave it to
To whom does Mr. Currier report? (OK, I'll guess... the people of his district) Did any of those persons ask him who the owner was? If he refused to answer to those to whom he reports, there is a very large problem here.
Actually.. oddly enough that would mean that facebook priced its IPO perfectly.
From the news I heard, the underwriters had to step in today to assure the stock didn't go below the IPO price. The pricing of the IPO was not as "perfect" as you assert.
Apple has made a strategic mistake here, giving the Apple Marketing Department control over the validity and content of the results that Siri provides.
I am also inclined to support the entertainment that I enjoy.
Yet you do admit that the added annoyances bother you and that you remove them from your viewing.

My point is that/. represents a minority of the world. Yes, you can rip and stream the DVD without the annoyances, but what about most people?
I am not opposed to supporting the entertainment industry. I just have to wonder why the entertainment industry seems to be in the business of pissing off their legitimate customers? Why is the entertainment industry driving their prospective customers to the pirate industry which provides a better, i.e., less annoying, product?
Exactly correct. The two 10-second pieces of unskippable "educational" content will serve only to annoy those people who legally purchased the DVD and Bluray discs. Those who acquire illegal copies will not be subject to such annoyances.
.
That sounds like a good plan to me if the goal is to push paying customers away.
Why is it that those who understand technology express grave concerns about the current status of electronic voting machines, yet those who wish to exploit technology have no concerns whatsoever about electronic voting machines?
It is guaranteed that there will be remarks, double entendres and innuendos with huge potential of getting worse.
As a male, I would not want to work with those people. Your company has a personnel problem well beyond what you think it is.

Here's the problem. Why should I pay money to make my OS worse?
Worth repeating.

It's a shame the mod point system here does not go up to "11".
Your comment is probably the most insightful on this thread. The old boss is doing everything it can to assure it is the new boss.
it's better for shareholders ... that the price went down
For the stocks in which I am a shareholder, I do not think that it is better when the share price goes down instead of up.
