Or just as good, a crack for iDVD that allows burning DVDs in a 16:9 aspect ratio, so that it works like its supposed to... as this guy's workaround is reporting
Looks like straight to video... by the Babylon 5 production team... and Kevin Smith (or a look alike).
The special effects look cool enough, but the acting, camera work, needs some serious editing (like... editing out)
on one side we have fanatical fans that have little reason or understanding behind their choice of HW and OS
and
on the other side...
its the same damn thing.
Personally, I can't STAND linux. And the Penguinistas are really getting on my nerves. I believe it is a great OS, but soley on the point that it is free. Yes, and it gets better every day... but that's part of the problem... every single day, the damn thing changes... and from my experience, it breaks itself at regular intervals.
Many Apple users are annoying too... fanatical, but really a bunch of winers.
Apple is proprietary, but it is an entity that tries very hard to take care of its customers (iPod batteries notwithstanding). If you want the HW but don't like the GUI, don't use it, you can run KDE if you want (I'm sure there are others). If you can afford it, and don't mind the GUI, what you get is excellent HW, excellent support, and a machine with software that works nearly flawlessly. I am really impressed with how Apple has turned itself around, and just when Microsoft started falling on its face... who knew this would happen?
As for the 64-bit processing questions... I just don't get it... besides games, I think, what is the average or lower educational user going to do with applications that can access more than 2GB of memory? Who can afford more than 2GB of memory?
The Mini won't even hold more than a GB (though I hope someday someone makes a 2GB stick that will work in it).
This post, Debian on Mini, was bound to happen. And it is neat, I guess, for the 'science' of doing something the manufacturers never intended. I think linux on the iPod is neat, too. But that's it. Its neato mosquito, man, but... almost entirely worthless, other than having the experience of doing an install that might be tricky.
I can't wait to see the/. post where some genius finally gets linux to install on his cat... now that would be impressive, and turn something totally useless into something that might be incredibly useful.
What is Terrasoft doing with the installation disks and licences of the free (with the hardware) and vastly superior operating system (aka OS X 10.3 aka Panther) if they are selling PowerMacs with YDL?
I was disappointed with my 1GHz 12" Albook display from day one. Only after seeing that the one they put on the 1.25GHz 12" did I stop careing... its supposed to be better, but I don't see a difference. The crappy display on my Thinkpad has better color, contast, and viewing angles. What is up with that? Come on Apple, I dare you to replace my pb display!
The one and only thing that bothered me about the prequals, what seemed obvious to me, is that those around Lucas influenced him to make his movies worse. For example, Warwick Davis, the little dude who played Wicket in Return of the Jedi, appears 3 times as an extra on 3 different planets (at the pod race, and later on Naboo during the parade... uh, I can't remember the other time). Is this supposed to be some sort of crudy inside joke? Screw suspension of disbelief! The mythology was shot to hell by these kinds of decisions... If only he had followed his original plan. It gave the impression that he was no longer really concerned with the seriousness involved in making good films, and spent superfluous energy to appeas all the asswipes that were bent on taking advantage of the old man's good nature. Don't blame Lucas, blame the jerks that reappeared out of arrogance and self-importance that wanted to make their mark ("Hey I was in Star Wars... look what I got away with!") but really all they wanted was another pay check.
Totally... a good point. You are reminding me of that song "Southern Cross." Man, that band has never even seen the Southern Cross, neither has most of their "fans," and neither have I. I say fans in quotes because they are only fans in that they like the song and think it is some sort of tribute to a racially provoked sentiment. btw, if you ever find yourself in court in the South, it really is best to speak with a southern accent, even if it is fake as hell (and I happen to believe it is ALL fake).
At least there is no danger of a "mistake" at the mirror grinding factory causing a "myopia" in the telescope, because I think the Pentagon knows that it can't spy on Earth from Antarctica. However, there is some danger, in having mirrors exposed like that, to crazy Swedes shooting at dogs. Hopefully, MacReady got the damn Thing.
He won't need to run for president. He'll just make Congress, the IRS, and whatever else he fancies a part of Microsoft. Then he'll fire the members of the House and the Senate, and farm all legislative duties out to some Indian temp agency at a fraction of the cost. I can hear his winy voice now, "And we think this is a good thing...."
Do you like her hair up or down? Blond, Brunette, or Red head? Tall or Short? Well endowed... or waif? These will be the last companion robot you ever buy!
I sent this story up last night before midnight, because I noticed after several hours no one had mentioned it... Apple hadn't posted their explaination on their site yet, so 99BottlesOfBeerInMyF has a more complete story.
But I brought up the fact that the last Update, "Security Update 2004-09-07" reappears in the Software Update list as a required update, even if you've already installed it (which I did on the 7th), and that this update (the last one) breaks your ftp server if you happened to be running one. The ftp server is fixed by adding a/usr/etc directory and copying/etc/ftpusers into it, but as far as I know, Apple hasn't owned up to this, and there is still no explanation. So what's up? Does anyone know why it has inexplicably re-appeared? (I understand it is rare for Apple to do this... but I will be wary of updates in the future.)
I don't want to go to Mars, but I think you're missing the point, probably because its being buried. The point is discovery - that's the reason for space exploration. And the money needed is not as much as 10% of other things in the U.S. budget. Spread out over time, its cheap considering what is gained. As a fan of SciFi, I love space stories, but the reality of it is that space is the most dangerous place a human can go. NASA's budget is an embarrassment. I don't think that we would have lost two shuttles if NASA wasn't being sqeezed to a shoe-string budget making them skury try to be even more amazing than they are... NASA's is not frivelously spending money, they are being stiffled by Congress's power of the purse, at the expense of discovery and the lives of astronauts.

I think it begs to be done. http://everymac.com/systems/apple/network_server/s tats/networkserver_700_200.html
Tons of space for HDs, and with the drawers replaced with minis that swap, some custom inteface they could plug right into, there's no need to tear the mini apart...
I'm waiting for the next revision to get a mini... It'll have all the kinks worked out and be more powerful.
Could this be what you want? http://www.macworld.com/news/2002/05/31/kde/index. php

Phrase coined by the famous statistician, Benjamin Disraeli.
It's not as interesting as running linux on a ratty copy of Moby Dick. Slow it down? The chip is sacred!

Thanks... I was not all that observant... but the version numbers, of course, speak volumes.
