First there was just plain Java Then there was Java 2 Now Java 5?
Where did Java 3 and 4 go? I personally can't wait to see Java X, or better, when they get that far instead of calling it Java, they'll call it Java eXpresso. Wait, that's kind of a cool name...
Salary increas eh? Time to switch jobs to get an increase.... oh wait, all the jobs are going to india... so wait... the guys in india are making more?:-)
How about a system that runs the OS off a flash chip, but not just like a handheld. Embed that little flash chip on a Mother Board for the OS and use that to boot the system and keep the system state even after power off.
Who'd want to pay for a subscription when there's bit-torrent out there?
Besides, call me archaic, but I'm still stuck on CD's and what not. MP3's and OGGs are good for previewing an artist, but if I really like their stuff, I'm off to the store to grab me a CD. Which I then promptly make a backup in MP3 or OGG form, but that's beside the point.
Only 30 eh? It doesn't mention anything about M.S. letting the US government see the code. Think they might still be a little bitter with that whole "You have a monopoly. We can't let you do that..." thing? Or do you think M.S. is afraid the Department of Homeland Security might issue another advisory saying that Office 2003 is insecure and everyone should switch to Open Office.
I know a few people that used to work in technical support for certain software companies that could profit from this. Example: say a spammer calls up a tech support place for help with the OS his spam box is running on. It *has* happened, I know the tech he talked to. Then Happy Tech turns in Mr. Customer for the 6 figure reward.
That's what I call 2 birds with one stone. Tech Support revenge AND Spam Revenge.... I'm failing to see the downside here....
Personally, I for the most part run Linux. This came in handy with all the email "viruses" floating around a little while back. I could just grab the damn things and if they were VB script, look at what they were doing with no worries.
These adware/spyware things don't really effect me now, but I am worried what might happen when Linux distributions start to permeate the desktop scene. Especially with some of the fun things a friend of mine showed me with FireFox/Mozilla and a neat thing called XUL. That was some messed up stuff....
But I am going to agree with you on the adware/spyware authors that should DIE DIE DIE. But I am going to add to that, spammers, script kiddies and all the other jack arses that decide to steal my Internet bandwidth by messing with the many windows boxes out there. It's my web too damn it!
From what I've heard, some of the Virus scanners out there, like Norton, will detect but not remove AdWare. So, the question here is, will McAffe actually remove it, or does it just detect it.
Plain old detection is useless. That's like a virus scanner popping up and saying "HEY STUPID! You have a virus but guess what, I don't feel like doing anything about it. I would just like to inform you of you gross incompetence."
Trademark office, patent office, I'm always get confused in government buildings. :-)
And I thought a fun play on words would be fun, cuz, come'on everybody's doing it.
This is now, what, the third Name for Java.

*runs to the patent office.*
Wait, if it was made possible by the world-wide development community, which I'm a part of, where's my damned cut? Where's my pay check?
Or is this like those Public Broadcasting Station things where it's like "This was made possible by people like you. Thank You. Come again."
Salary increas eh? Time to switch jobs to get an increase.... oh wait, all the jobs are going to india... so wait... the guys in india are making more? :-)
Oh I know how slow the stuff can be, I suppose it's just geeky wishful thinking.

Mmmm... instant on computers maybe?

Then I wonder how long after that happens that M.S. starts whining like a baby and takes all the code away from everyone.

Ummm... wait, isn't this basically the SIMS? Granted I dunno how 3D one would consider the SIMS, but isn't that game just one big chat room really?
