    Perhaps Blacks should make that decision for themselves?

    You're basically saying that the 88% of African American's who didn't vote for Bush are too stupid to realize that they are being duped.

    That is a number which reflects more then just Democratic propaganda.

    Perhaps if you take your statement and analyze the reasons behind your own words, you'll understand why Blacks don't trust people like you.

    Heck, the Republican party was FORMED as a single-issue party: abolition.

    Times have changed in the last 150 years.

    No, I don't understand why someone would vote for a president who promotes fear to boost his support in the polls, or why someone would allow themselves to be duped by this trickster.

    I'm sure some of them would also vote for Mikey Mouse, as long as the candidate doesn't support gay marriage and gives me a teeny tax cut.

    We don't need to be changing the tradition of marriage.

    Then don't marry a gay person.

    But you should not the right to restrict the rights of others?

    Marriage is a spiritual institution-- if a Church wants to ban gay marriage within their own realm, fine. But the government seeks to promote it's own morallity over others by defining all of these legal rights which should be available to any couple, straight or gay.

    I have to agree with you about part of that.

    As I head to work in San Francisco today, I really wonder what this election would be like if Mayor Newsom didn't push the Gay Marriage issue. Not sure if that had a great impact, or if more people were reacting to the Massachussets decision, or what exactly.

    Well, if we fight for civil unions, then we need to fight for all of the other legal benefits of Marriage. It's a much longer road. Why not grant the same rights at the start?

    I just hope that there are enough sensible conservatives/moderates left who understand that the Constitution should not be messed with lightly.

    By the way, I am gay and I voted for Bush.


    But this is the same Bush who wanted to mess with the Constitution. Why on earth would you vote for him? Really, I'm curious.

    There are too many questions about electronic voting, and the legitimacy of the election in question. If these requests are not filled, it will really help to calm down the cries of voting fraud.

    You should still vote. There are many local issues where your vote will make a difference.

    You have more power then you think. Local issues often have a way of spreading to many cities and becoming national issues, by voting in your local elections you are helping to light the path.

    Something that wasn't covered very well on the news was the number of Gay Marriage measures in different states.

    Bush won the vote in many of those states because Christians showed up to vote to ban Gay Marriage.

    Very clever on part of the Republican Strategists. It is doubtful that the "Evangellical Christians" would have voted if the anti-gay measures weren't on the ballot.

    Evangellical Christians only show up when they can vote a fool into power or restrict personal liberties. I left my home town because of those fascists...

    I often hear Linux & Unix admins talking about their tremendous uptime. I regard these people as a little unwise and arrogant, more concerned with meaningless bragging numbers instead of focusing on the stability of the system.

    Lately, I inherited [1] a surviving dotcom [2] with 20 unix computers. The

    Of course, 2 months after the previous Unix admin quits, power goes out on a couple power strips at the AT&T Datacenter [3] and I need to restart the computers.

    The OS comes up fine, but the init scripts for the Apache, Java App server, and misc. servers were all hosed, and I had to investigate each one and restart all of the important services on all machines. This turned a 5 minute downtime into a 2 hour downtime... AT 3 IN THE FUCKING MORNING!

    Screw your uptime, test your startup scripts. Distaster recovery is more important.

    [1] I was hired, then the parent company laid a bunch of people off. Fuck me!

    [2] Not surviving any more! Fuck me!

    [3] Top of the line reliability, yeah right.

    The Boston Tea Party was also a criminal act. Sometimes the laws themselves are unjust, and you must break the law to promote the right thing.

    Although I agree with you-- how will other people vote if I destroy the voting machine...

    Myself, I have no idea if I can refuse to use the machines on election day. Luckily I don't have to make that choice today. I have an absentee ballot here ehivhz i hsbr no turned in. I just need to hand it over on Tuesday.

    There are a couple of transcripts floating around, you can google for them.

    Interesting thing through, I read one transcript on CNN last night, and then watched a news program about the tape. The transcript on CNN had some signifigantly different phrases then the translator on the news. The CNN transcript was missing the latter half of the last sentence, for example.

    Arabic -> English isn't always a one-to-one translation. There are Arabic words which have no equivilant in English and visa versa.

    When you have different translations, you can easily end up with different meanings.

    Before this tape appeared what conclusive evidence did you have that he was still alive?

    This depends a bit on your timeline. Bin Laden released a tape in April mentioning the Madrid Bombings, so we know he was alive just a few months ago.

    You don't have any idea of my personal situation.

    Given your additude, I have a pretty good idea.

    In your opinion, do you believe that it is OK for children to grow up without a mommy? What about without a daddy? Which one sex is expendable?

    I know that plenty of children grow up without a mommy or without a daddy, and they turn out fine, other's don't. Other kids grow up with a mommy and daddy, and end up as mass murderers, while other kids turn out fine.

    My wife grew up with a single mom. When she was 14-17, she ran away several times and was taken care of by a single lesbian woman who took care of many runaways and had two boys from a previous marriage.

    She had a foster brother. One day, this 15 year old boy came home with some F's on his report card. His heterosexual mom and dad beat the shit out of him, breaking his arm. This lesbian women saved the boy, and raised him in her house.

    There are many, many ways for a kid to grow up. There are many great parents, straight and gay. There are many bad parents, straight and gay. Excluding gays from parenting just because they are homosexual is plain stupid.

    I don't think it occurs that often.

    It happens more often then you think. I know dozens of gay people with kids, and dozens more who want children.

    But it's obvious you don't frequently associate with many gay couples, so how would you know?

    Certainly, I don't think we as a society should encourage either single parents or unisex parents until more is known about the sex roles in raising children.

    Luckily for those people, it is not up to you to 'encourage' anything, and we don't need to wait around for you to become convinced. As Americans we are free to make most of those decisions for ourselves, except when the government prevents things like marriage.

    You are welcome to stay in your cave while the rest of the world progresses without you.

    Wasn't long ago that people were saying the same thing about mixed-race relationships.
