...they're arguing is that the last ice age wasn't ended by an increase in CO2. But that doesn't prove that CO2 has no effect on climate.
Of course it doesn't prove something. They whole article is a hypothesis. Welcome to science class.
There is, in fact, an argument for manmade climate change. They finish up by saying [The radiative forcing due to CO2 may serve as an amplifier of initial orbital forcing...]
There is also, in fact, an argument for pet giraffes. In fact, it is just an argument, not a fact, in fact. Argument. Fact. (Stop talking.)
There's a positive feedback loop here that's quite scary....Feedback loops can cycle out of control damn quickly. Ever held a microphone in front of its own speaker?
All real-world feedback systems reach a point of saturation, including audio amplifiers and world climate. I want to know where that saturation point is, and what variables define it. In the meantime, I am pleased that we may have found a mechanism that can pull earth out of an ice age.
There are hundreds of papers making the opposite argument.
In that these hundreds of papers present evidence that shows the correlation between CO2 and Temperature, then go on to present a hypothesis showing causality. This is the scientific process. It is not fact.
> Al Gore's primary argument(which is the correlation between temperature and CO2 in the ice cores)
Gore's primary argument is that increases in CO2 result in increases in average temperature. It is a false argument, because the evidence he presents shows a correlation, not causality.
> It is unquestionable that a voter who does not know 70% of the planet is water is less qualified to help fix the planet...
You, sir, fail at basic science. It may be possible to support your hypothesis through experimentation. However, even if you can derive a proof or produce evidence to such an effect, your assertion is not unquestionable.
The examples provided in the summary are useless. 100% of people know that they are not underwater, and ~99.9% of people are aware that dinosaurs are currently extinct.
If the facts are not relevant to a person's daily life or that person's career, who cares if they know the quantitative answer to a question? Let that person concentrate on information that can actually improve their lot in life, and stop quizzing them on trivia.
No, I do not want government software to be open source.
I want government software, like all software, to be good. There will always be bad software. However, if an entrepreneur identifies a bad product, and the market in quest has a low cost of entry, you will find that the bad product will be replaced with a better product. Whether or not it is open source or closed source is irrelevant.
Too many people consider freedom to be a price. I consider freedom to be the opportunity to improve yourself and the world around you, and I believe any society that promotes freedom of opportunity will prosper.
Along this line - you could look for a job at a colocation site. Most run 24/7 support, so they are always looking for folks that are willing to do nights/weekends. They usually have to deal with a wide variety of problems, which should provide some well rounded experience without too much repetitive work.
This is actually a reasonable solution. Last week I did something far more ghetto - powered my gas furnace off the motorcycle using a 1600 Watt power inverter. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

Can you even classify the quoted material as evidence?
At best, there is a correlation between CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere and the average temperature. Correlation does not imply causation.

Never mind that Solitaire is on the default Ubuntu install, along with a dozen other (read: more than Windows) pre-installed games.

He decided.
If you want to help open source, require that government software makes widespread use of open specifications. The rest will pay for itself.

You can use Windows and Mainframe in the same sentence.
You can even use Reliability and Mainframe int he same sentence.
But, seriously, using Windows and Reliability together??? You must be from marketing.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't use flash, although it certainly crossed my mind. Vendor lock-in is bad, especially for government services.
Microsoft announces 36 security patches for zero-day vulnerabilities.
When you beta-test a product, shouldn't you test the complete product?
You should have put your name in the description. Instead of hitting the pedophile, it would have hit this story, which is a far better option.
Its a wonder that this whole topic isn't tagged as "Trollbait"
I suspect your computer might have Windows on it. Good luck!
Ability will never catch up with the demand for it.

Can we get a Troll (+1) mod for this post please?

^^ mod up ^^
You can want on dead:beef:: all day long - me and Windows ME have had ::dead:beef for a decade now.
"tax per person equals government spending per person"
I read that as a flat-tax and apportioned expendatures - neither of which have occurred anytime in US History.
