You don't compile your binaries. You compile the source code and it becomes a binary. Funny, while I was at school some guy was trying to make fun of me and was all like "Yeah Linux is for nerds, cause I have to compile your binaries, hehehehe." I was all like "WTF What binaries do I compile, uhh right, I compile source." Wait,...... I REALLY AM A DORK!
I guess I am not trying to discourage them, I am only saying, if your going to make a point, at least have it make sense. Its like he is trying to say that HP and Microsoft are not friends, which is completley false. Now if they are trying to get away from Microsoft so be it, however, I doubt they are moving away from the cash cow that is Windows desktops anytime soon.
I am not sure the addition of more OOP support is going to take PHP into the "less hackish" language camp in my mind. Moving from PHP development to a Java or Python/Zope based model with more emphasis on MVC patterns and Unit testing, is much better than the old hack way of putting all the controler, model and view code on the same page. I guess for a quick and easy solution, PHP got your back, I am not really in love with how it scales up if you want to move into MVC though. Plus the fact that it is a functional language at its core is not too appealing from a OOP perspective. Though, I use it to program my blog, go figure.
This guy needs to get a clue. He mocks Sun for being in bed with Microsoft and says that if Sun releases Solaris under the GPL they will give them laptops with Windows preloaded because Sun and Microsoft are friends now. The audience snickered, because they are stupid. HP has been Microsofts bitch for AGES, please Fink, at least make statements that make sense, you use a Windows laptop, admit it. HP only sells Windows desktops, at least own up to the stuff you sell.
When the LiveCD with an installer gets out of "experimental" I might give Gentoo a go. I tried it once, not bad to setup, just takes time, however these days I am less wanting to screw around and more wanting to get stuff done. Not that Gentoo doesnt allow you to get stuff done, far from it, the setup time is just increased is all, something I want to avoid if at all possible. It already takes quite a bit of work to get my Ubuntu machine up to par. Rock on Gentoo though!
I work for a a OSS company, we only use OSS. The only gaping hole at the moment is collab tools. We are betting on Hula becoming a good piece of software soon, I am hoping the Evolution calendar support is well enough to trust. It looks good sofar!
I would not touch regular SuSE because of the propretary components built in. I will download this OpenSuSE and give it a try when it is more stable. Not sure if it will dethrone Ubuntu as my Free Desktop, but never say die right?
Who gets the 7 million from Microsoft using illegal tactics to attain marketshare whereby destroying competition?
Whats that? Oh right, the politicians who let it happen.
Well the one with Will was not as flattering to Will, Will is a sexy guy. Though, we are all total dorks, even Linus said that. A room full of Free and Open Source Software nuts? Yep, all dorks, no surprise here really.

No one cares!

I work for OpenSourcery(http://www.opensourcery.com/ a member of POSSE. I talked to Linus, he was a nice guy, damn good pool player. I posted my view of the evening, and my best recollection of my conversation with Linus(http://cs.georgefox.edu/~jdodson/getArchive. php?gettedDate=20050805094736), I talked to him about some Kernel stuff, etc. I was a bit starstruck, oh well, it happens.
