    Making the show is not the challenge. It's getting people to watch it that's hard. Branding power and all that. It's like Nintendo and Tetris.

    And hell, a decent multitrack Pro Tools setup will run several thousands of dollars. I mean, nice acoustics don't matter for electronics but stuff still has to be properly mastered, especially for vinyl.

    On Verizon (and perhaps others?), all in network calls are free.

    On Verizon, you can only make free in-network calls if you have the $50/month plan.

    You can have unmetered local calling with a land line for around $15/month + hidden fees, which AFAIK doesn't exist anywhere else.

    the reason it became so popular was the close file format.

    No, while it was getting popular, I still had no problem reading and writing Word docs with good ol' ClarisWorks. (The Mac version anyway)

    The right to own data was lost with closed format, since it did require a license to read something you might have produced yourself.

    You required the license to create it in that format. I don't see how this is problematic.

    If MSFT can't close the document format and any program can correctly read/write documents in the way they were intended what advantage does MSFT have.

    Microsoft Word has other features besides an exclusive file format, you know.

    They should post on slashdot. This game lasts forever, and maybe they'd raise the average intelligence of this place past the IMDb boards.

    No, that story is cut out of the Google spider.

    Maybe the AFP should tell the people who buy its storys not to put them out on a public internet.

    Ah, but AFP doesn't care if someone goes to a newspaper's website to read the article for free, because then the newspaper gets the ad revenue. They're looking out for their customers. I just don't see why they don't realize that a small excerpt gets people to go read the rest of the article.
