I for one love Usenet archives. It saves me from posting a question that's been asked and answered a 100 times.
Now C|Net's help.com is another story. That just pisses me off. They're making money (banners) off of people's niceness. If they want to make money by answering tech questions then hire some people to answer them! Don't leech off the newsgroups.
I still think that they'll try to do it the same way as always; FUD, FUD, and more FUD. As long as they can keep the unwashed masses thinking that the only way is the MicroSoft way they don't really have to worry about Unix. Thankfully those masses are starting to see the light and I don't think Microsoft will know what the hell to do.
Uzbekistan?! Hell, that's my average and I'm in Pa. I've replaced my house wiring but it still doesn't help. The problem's with bell but they want $$ to fix it.
The same way they've tried with Apple (and kinda failed) and Novel (sort of worked); lies and underhanded deals.
You can like Microsoft all you want (I did back in the Word 5 days) but you can not say they got where they are today by playing fair.
Let's face it, you have to get used to all OS's. Sure most anybody can sit down in front of a Mac or Windows Box or even a Unix/Linux running KDE or Gnome and do simple things (surf the web, play a game, etc). It's installing drivers (and figuring out why they don't work sometimes) and such that takes getting used to.
I find Mac's the easiest, followed by Unixes, followed by Windows. Mac's let you see WTF is going on. Unix makes you see what's going on. Windows's registy hides those things from the unwashed masses.
One way I could think of would be to include something like what pine was with new versions of Linux (Both boxed and ISO's). Either on first boot or as a app/script that would ask you if it could send out a e-mail to count how many people are using it. Now, who to send it to....
I'm stuck on this one too. both of them fall short on supporting my beliefs(gun ownership, religious freedom, let people sleep with and marry whom ever they wish).
Gore= bye, bye 2nd Amendment
Bush= What's gay rights? United States of Christ
That leaves me the Lib. Party but, I'm sorry to say, they haven't a chance in hell.
I'm about 3 miles outside of Philly and I agree. I heard all this stuff about the peaceful protesters getting busted but I haven't seen any evadence (spelling?). I think the cops did really well. On the first day there was a big peaceful march down one of the main roads(was it Market or Broad) by the Wellfare Rights Union that had a lot of Mumia suporters in it. If they were out to bust heads don't you think they they would have done it then? Yea, they did go after the Mumia folks later in the week but that group was rasing hell and indangering people.
I'm not one to knee jerk say that the cops are right. Hell, I'm more inclined to think bad of them but when they do something right I'll stand behind them.
I wasn't going to post on this topic but you just got my goat.
Why does everyone want to support the ACLU? The ACLU does not support freedom of religion. Why does the ACLU want to get rid of all references of the word God? They sued the state of Ohio because of mentioning God in the state motto...
They don't want to get rid of the word God. They just want to get it out of the Government. For all they care (and I feel the same way) you can wear a cross, star of david, pentagram, whatever. You can paint a big picture of Jesus on the hood of your car, etc. I'm Wiccan and the ACLU has helped stop schools from pushing the Jewish/Christain/Muslim God on Pagan students. "You can't wear a Pentagram it's a... gang symbol, yea that's it, a gang symbol."
You are free to be Religious. Wear your $holy_symbol proadly!
Just let me wear mine.
Pray to $deity to your hearts content.
Just don't blast it across the PA system.
The reason NetBSD comes in to the picture is because those models of Power Macs are basicly modified Quadra 630's andthe guy that is working on making these work with MKLinux got a lot of help from the NetBSD Mac68K mailing list.
I assume he's going to help the NetBSD PPC folks get them working too.
This pisses me off. Sure apple has the right to sue the people that brake the NDA but they should not have the right to shutdown macosrumers.com and their like. Yea, 80% of the stuff on those sites are vaporware but they have a right to post it. If not then the National Inquirer and their like should have been shutdown years ago.
At my last job I was in charge of the e-mail server and I never read anyone's e-mail with out them asking me to ("what's this mean?" type of things). Not everyone with power abuses it.
Sorry to nit-pick but I get asked about this from time to time. Your right that no *nix will run well, if at all on the LC040 chips but there are other older Mac's that can't run *nix either. Basicly you need a 68020 with a MMU or better. 68000 chips (Mac Plus, Classic, SE) can not run *nix nor can plain 68020's (LC(?), Mac II, etc) with out a MMU.
It's a shame to. I know a lot of people that like ICQ better then AIM but I fear that AOL's going to kill off ICQ. On the Mac a new version of AIM comes out every few months or so. ICQ hasn't been updated in forever.
I agree. Yea, running Linux on a PDA is kinda neat but I really don't care what OS a PDA runs as long as it's easy to use and will sync with the machines I use (Mac, Win, and Unix )
What version of the MacOS are you using? While I do have some problams with Netscape 4.7* I haven't had it take the OS down once sence upgrading to OS 9.04 (I would take down OS 9 daily but so would Finder). When Netscape craps out on me it just quits. I don't think this is Netscapes doing though. OS 9.04 is much more stable then earlier ones.
StriderQabbala, First off, normally I'd e-mail something like this but I didn't see your address. Anyway. You say you're not religious, you're a Christain. I've heard that one before but I've never really understood the distinction. Could you explain?
Not all of the clones had the meat slicer cases. I know the early 601 based PowerComputing towers did but My PowerCenter 120 not bad (Better then the PM 8500's)

Sorry, I know those are fighting words :-)

Not to mention CC numbers and usernames/passwords.

Hope That Helps, I think

Actually there's a radio host here that's doing just that.
I'm just sitting back and trying to ignore it.
You too. It's the first day and I'm already sick of it.
The problem I have with protesting here is that there are so many protesters protesting everything that we'd just be lost in the noise.
I wasn't sure about the first LC. I couldn't remember if it had a MMU or not.

I could be wrong here but I'm pretty sure that I've been using 2.0b for almost a year and when I checked the site last week it was still the newest.

Anyway.

This if not a flame. I've just always wondered.
If you want to can e-mail me or post.
From what I've read on www.macintouch.com if you replace the stock card you loose DVD play back. So you have to choose, kick ass games or dvd.
