The Geneva Convention does not apply to enemy combatants who are not aligned with an officially recognized state. There's no sense imposing a set of rules on people who are not going to follow them. We could put Al Qaeda prisoners up in Smurf Village, and they'll simply cut our guys' heads off. They aren't entitled to GC treatment anyway, since they are operating outside the boundaries of both US and precious, precious international law. You guys only seem to quote international law when it's convenient.

The Democrats sowed the seeds of their own destruction years ago, with their "divide and conquer" strategy. As a result, you have Inner-City African-Americans, Teachers Unions, Environmentalists, Union Households, the Anti-Gun Lobby, and the list goes on and on. Based on some of the things Flynt has said, I'd venture to say that pornographers are a core constituency as well.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, this strategy has backfired. It turns out that many Union Households are also gun owners. You can't pander to both at the same time, or you end up like John Kerry. So it's Union Households vs. the Anti-Gun Lobby.
There's also many Inner-City African-Americans that would like an opportunity to send their child somewhere other than a money-pit failing slum of a school. But vouchers take power away from the almighty Teachers Unions. So on the school choice issue it's Inner-City African-Americans vs. the Teachers Unions. Can't pander to both. For my last trick, I'd like to point out some of your experiences which dovetail nicely with my point. The Rabid Animal Rights Activists vs. the Pornographer(s). The PETA freaks apparently really scared you over the kitty-cat thing. "Thanks to you and the media my life has been ruined..." Please.
Society judges people, (well, Americans anyway, I don't know about you Canadians) on our contributions to society. I would bet that you are more of a "sayer" than a "doer". Like so many of you.

The nature of counterterrorism "wins" is such that you are NOT going to hear about the victories. Do you think they're going to broadcast it every time they stop a terrorist operation or attack? They can't. The fact that you aren't seeing suicide bombers in malls and baseball stadiums is probably a pretty good reason to say that there have been LOTS of counterterrorism wins.

I agree that there are some issues here, and perhaps you need a paper trail to begin with. In the future, there's not going to be a paper trail at all. But we need to get confidence in the process before that happens.

The left in this country is traditionally seen as doing the most ballot-box tampering (i.e. Mayor Daley, dead people voting, etc.), and the right is traditionally seen as doing the most voter intimidation (i.e. misinformation campaigns, pointing people to the wrong precincts, etc). What will an electronic voting system do to these stereotypes?
What remains to be seen is what safeguards can be put in place to guard against tampering and data loss. I'm curious to find out what sort of tamper-proof designs have been put in place, and are issues like battery-backup and power surges being dealt with as well?
