Coldfusion is actually having a bit of a rebirth according to recent statistics. If you haven't used Coldfusion since MX, it really is a powerful yet simple language. It has drawback's but with all of it's included features, java architecture and ease of use it really is a viable alternative to many languages. Now let's see how Adobe handles it...
Other than for products (or news aggregating websites) that were originally coded in Perl is there any reason to start a project today in Perl instead of any of the more modern scripting languages?
This is not a rhetorical question (or in Slashdot: I am not trolling). I would actually like to know why developers would choose Perl over alternatives today on a new project.

Just because the chip has been left by apple doesn't mean it doesn't still have a huge amount of development being done by IBM for their servers, Motorola and the embedded market, and then the fact that two of the next major consoles will be using it. Even if it isn't exactly desktop, any development is good development.

I think the main protection linux has is alot of critical eyes thinking of things like buffer overflows. Or at least thats what I'd like to think.
