    You have it backwards. In European cultures, marriage was a religious institution first. It wasn't later when the government got involved and civil marriages came into existence.

    No, that's not what the article said. The calming effect of prayer (which you guys are claiming is equivalent to meditation) was just one aspect that they noted. Read the article before you get on your high horse.

    I have moved several parents to Linux with Mint. The XFCE edition is the most windows like (especially if you select the Redmond theme) that I have found. Email, web-browsing and solitaire all work so they are happy.

    That's probably not completely true. The state just wants [it's] money [back?] and could care less at where it comes from. If the 'other mother' would pay it, I'm sure the state would be happy.

    What probably happened, is that the 'other mother' either said "I'm a performance artist and I only make $5K a year" or she said "Not mine, don't care, not legally married" and left the state on the hook for the bill. THAT'S probably why they went after the only person that they could 100% pin the creation of the kid on.
