Actually, I didn't really miss the real reason they are both so great. I never had to use it. And that's exactly my point. The best customer service is to never have any need for it, when it comes to online retailing. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to hear that both Amazon and Newegg have excellent customer service. I would never have begun shopping at either had I never first heard that about them. But really, I'm more impressed that in the two plus years I've been shopping at each, I've never had to use any customer service. I think that speaks for itself.
I've used a few different online retailers for various products. The best two I have ever dealt with is amazon and newegg.
Not once has either screwed up my order: always on time, with the correct contents, and well packaged. Which is why I keep coming back. They both have ease of use, with reliability. Perhaps they don't offer any unique in and of themselves. Perhaps their prices are the same as elsewhere. But the fact is, if I know I can trust them to not send me the wrong damn fan, or that my dvd will arrive and they case won't be cracked, then I'll always go with them.
"We need a worm/virus that deletes everyones files. That would make keeping your computers patched a high priority for most of the users. At the moment, viruses are just something that affects and annoys "other people""
Similarly, we need a firebug to go around lighting people's houses on fire to show how having smoke detectors should be a high priority.
I realize you're not being 100% serious, but this reasoning is stupid.
"So, either of you fellows care to explain why you drove the delivery van over to Mario Calienti's office and then drove it and a cement mixer over to the waterfront?"
That wasn't exactly what the analogy was. A provision of probation for a lot of drug offenses is that also can't be around anyone who is doing drugs, even if you aren't. Its hard for police just randomly show up at your friends house and see you're hanging out with a drug offender. Same for the internet.
The term "internet" is a damn broad statement in and of itself. I think that has a lot to do with just exactly where to draw a line as to what's considered using the internet or not. Touchtone telephones for example. A grey area.
I'd say that the aforementioned pedophile's example was quite a bit different. He has a rule like "no chat rooms for 10 years." I'd say a chat room is fairly easy to define, and a much clearer cut case.
Also, the "toothless" threat of this is just like the "toothless" threat that is given to people on parole or probation for drug offenses. You can't be around anyone who is using drugs as part of the deal. Can they really enforce that too effectively? Its supposed to be a point. Something you're supposed to regulate yourself on, because, on the off chance they do find out, you're in a whole world of trouble.
Well, I know in my area there are no DS's or PS2's available at Target, Walmart, Media Play or Circuit City. I don't know of any Best Buys nearby. But based on the fact that every other store is sold out, I assume its an area thing.
After flipping through the site, and looking at the construction images, I noticed that he has integrated the controller into the unit. Interesting, but makes one thought come to mind:
Its almost as big as the original xbox controller.
Secondly, China as a state is far more concerned about being able to control its people effectively than it is about outside powers. I have no doubt that these "eyes" could be put to use in other forms. However, I'm more concerned about the further rape of what few freedoms the people of China have left. Its mind boggling.
First off, let me just say, excellent post. You are, in my opinion, 100% right. And you pose an interesting question for them.
I just wanted to say, that, personally, the trick is to play with people you know. The great thing about online games was the fact that you could always find someone to play with; and playing with people is always more fun than playing with AI. Until of course, those people end up being the obnoxious assholes that overpopulate the online world. I can't stand to play a game of Counter-Strike or Pandora Tomorrow online anymore. Too many people fools.
At the same time, using direct play has made most games totally worth their online capability. Nothing is more fun than a massive game of Dawn of War between all my friends. Or a small, but exciting deathmatch of UT2K4 with my three best friends. Its civil, and fun, and we don't necessarily all have to get together. Its even better at a LAN, but its hard to make time for them, between college, work, girlfriends, etc.
Anyways, my advice is, find some people you know personally, or some people who you've become acquinted with online, who you respect and can tolerate. People who actually play the game right and don't blurt racial slurs. Play with them, and only them.
They're designing a world that allows for players to coexist and thus increase their revenue.
Highly competetive games, especially shooters, are always being outdated by newer games and technology. Why frag (or be fragged by,) someone in Quake II when you could frag someone in Unreal Tournament 2004.
At the same time, in order to be a top player in any of those games, you must have devoted a large amount of time to being good at it. Natural coordination and skill not with standing.
However, in these "newb" MMOG's that are less competetive, and allow for less dedicated or skillful players to still perform and play with the others, the designer's guarantee a player base which will migrate less easily. Thus, in the long run, increasing their revenue.
The aforementioned decay in quality is a side effect of this shift. But if you're not a power gamer, this decay might not be easily perceived for some time.

This post is both insightful and flamebait at the same time. I love how objective people are(n't.)
"So, either of you fellows care to explain why you drove the delivery van over to Mario Calienti's office and then drove it and a cement mixer over to the waterfront?"
Because 8-Ball's shop was closed.
how else would you explain "6666 more btyes"?
Aside from the fact that 666 is the number you mean, its because you have your threshold set to 10000 bytes.
I know its a joke. But its not funny.
Because, you know, of the four channels the plane is able to receive, they would prioritize Cartoon Network over anything else available.
They would if they knew what was good for them. I have a bomb in my shoe!
Now I won't miss Adult Swim while I'm taking my flights to Europe and back.
This really rose the bar? I don't see how.
/sarcasm
Duh, its google-related. It must be better than everything else, thus raising the bar.
Clearly.

This is almost cure and unusual punishment... no more checking Slashdot every 5 minutes, I guess it would have to be delivered by post ;)
Actually, he hangs out a local Kinko's, telling them to refresh the main page and print the screen every five minutes.

and I can tell you that of that 400,000 more that are supposed to ship by Christmas, I will see four more tomorrow and maybe four more next week.
Of course, I have a waiting list of over 30 customers who want one. Supply and Demand isn't exactly working the way it should, hype aside.
Same with the PlayStation 2 remake. We're getting eight in stock tomorrow, and I have almost 50 people on the waiting list.

First of, geosynronous. Sorry, nit picking.

Is the fate of the environment now in the hands of the US?
No. The fate of the enviroment is already a sealed deal. Look to any rapidly industrializing nation, such as China.
So, where in the world should you be, to get the best view? :)
Outside.
Thank you sir for a well reasoned and rational view on the current "war on drugs" in American and abroad, and why it is such a failure, and a waste.
Welcome to my friends list.

(Here's a hint: They make lousy voting machines.)
Diebold makes lousy everything.
Like the actual story: ATMs in peril from computer worms? The Register seems to believe it's partly a scare tactic to sell antivirus software, though.
Windows is actually just a ploy by Symantec to make money. Makes sense to me.
Are these efforts being coordinated with other such programs, such as SETI?
Old school Penny-Arcade once more proves its value. Hehe.
