Southern India, coastal regions, urban areas, you'll find well-educated, secular people who share most of the same values we do. North India, more rural and remote areas are in fact far more religious and conservative. Those lovely scenes on CNN where Indians were rioting and butchering Muslims and celebrating? Thats the general kind of mentality I'm talking about. Honor killings, forced marriages, old-fashioned intolerance. This is changing, but religious and tribal authority still overrides national authority in much of the North.
There have been 3 wars with Pakistan for a reason, everyone there isn't as peace-loving as you seem to think.
My family is South Indian, and overall while they are prejudiced against northerners I try not to share that, but I have noticed differences between the Indians I grew up with here and others I've met. Just like there are red and blue states but one US, there are different levels of education and beliefs in India.
Just trying to give you a better picture of what the country is like.
IANAL, but I doubt microsoft would enforce this much beyond long-winded threats for the same reason the MPAA hasn't used the DMCA in american court yet (IIRC).
Judicial review example:
1. Wealthy interest pays everyone in congress $99999199234 for some law they claim to need.
2. Said interest invokes law against civvy.
3. If case is tried and defendant wins/has-a-pulse law can be repealed in part or whole.
There are things in the DMCA that barely even warrant a laugh, and it will stay a law because nobody is stupid enough to screw with it. Like those stories your parents used to scare you with. Honestly the fact that Microsoft even tried to enforce the FAT patent (rofl) shows only they are so abysmally stupid to enforce something that is obviously invalid. Unchallenged the FAT patent was a way to make free money, backed up by fear of MS and the desire to be left alone.
Not that these things aren't dangerous as they become more accepted, but for the near future gay-everything patents aren't going to end the world unless we just let them.
Since the distro is basically a KISS philosophy this is about time. Since the desktops are starting to get functional this kind of thing will happen more, before you needed kde/gnome because neither alone could handle most common tasks.
Slackware was my fave distro pre-gentoo, nice to see it going back to its roots.
Bought a Dell 8200 lugbook for work and home few years back. 15" UXGA screen made it too big for most of the $100+ leather bags i tried, and too heavy to be comfortable anyway. Bought a $40 targus and couldnt be happier. Padded with room for extra gear, best solution I've found yet. If you really plan to carry something around vs. just have it look good go targus, rest is a waste of money.
Press Secretary Scott Mcclellan:
Well actually if you look back to the 2002 briefings you'll see that director Tenet advised the president that the 2004 oil output of Texas would be "at least 900 million billion barrels a second."
While early reports show this might have been overly optimistic, there are indications this oil may have been removed by Muslim militants working under cover of a French restaurant for use with nuclear material obtained... from Africa.
Be afraid... be very afraid.
im sorry, there is more than rhetoric? Politics is just another hollywood'ish drama, with those not in power the poor innocent david's among the incumbent philistenes. Looking back to the 80's headlines, the hair may have changed but the plot stays the same.
In the long run Democrats = Republicans. Different agendas, different means of mobilising voters, but neither party has a solution to any of the country's problems beyond staying in office. Remember the pre-clinton republicans? Back before they had the house republicans we're reasonable, hell they had to be. Give them a 4 year run in the majority, all the moderates are ejected for extremists, the McCain's and Jefford's suppressed in favor of the neo-cons and Frists. "Moderate view? What the F* do we need a moderate view for?"
Does noone else see a pattern? Give the democrats the majority for 8 years and we'll end up with a socialist agenda. Doesn't bother me quite as much as the neo-Fascist one, but I'd kinda still prefer something in between.
Whatever, I guess I'll just settle in for my new regressive tax with matching satellite tracking implant so I can get on planes.
10 out of 10 terrorists agree - anybody but Bush in 2004
wow, now democratic voters can join the pro-choice and young marijuana smokers as supporting terrorism!
I would almost agree with you, but not quite.
