I've actually recommend this to a couple people lately that had me build them second computers to do things like photo editing. One of them has followed my advice, the other told me it was great advice, then the next time I was at her house, she had plugged it into her cable connection with her other PC.

I run a second PC at home that is off the net, it can be a pain though. Software needs updates, some software makes it difficult to install and register without a connection. So many vendors now assume all pc's are net connected.

Actually, you'll have to install it, and every time you launch it, it will go out and search for updates before it plays. That way you can be assured that you always have the most up to date version of the movie.

if you look at the crap you have to agree to it says that the $250.00 deposit is non-refundable whether or not they ever produce or deliver a cat. with that kind of agreement i wouldn't reserve one until i saw one with my own eyes.

I highly recommend reading the agreement on their website, one of the best reads I've had in years. Some other great tidbits from the agreement.

If you die or go crazy before the cat is available, your relatives can buy the cat.

The $3500 will be adjusted for inflation when they actually come up for sale.

50% of the cats produced go to the open market, instead of to people who have deposits down.

You cannot sell or transfer the cat except to immediate family.

You cannot sell or give away any genetic material from the cat.

They can spay, neuter and microchip your cat if they so choose.

You agree to take an allergy test and turn the results over to the company if they so choose.

Well it did model 'dark' very well...

  5. Re:CSI (Crime Scene Investigations) on Science Television: Does Joe Public Care? · · Score: 1

I used to like CSI when it first came out, but it really got to annoy me, because they make up science. As an example, I've seen them take a photo that had a tv in the background, digitize it (where it became the size of a few pixels), blow it up, and sharpen it to the point that the tv now has a reflection of the person taking the photo sharp enough that they could identify the person. Uhm yeah, I am a photographer, both digital and film, and I have my own darkroom. I wish I could do stuff like that.

In another episode, they took the background noise of a 911 call, and seperated it out into two discrete signals of the sounds of two engines. And of course, could identify the vehicles by those sounds.

I don't really understand why they feel they need to make up science, the science behind CSI is probably fascinating enough without making stuff up. It just drives me nuts, I'd watch the discovery channel instead, but I don't really need to know how to build a motorcycle. Sometimes I just turn the tv off. Sometimes it really pays just to turn the TV off...
