I've just built out a Mac Mini HTPC (1.6ghz CoreDuo) and using QuickTime I can't play back any MKVs well at all. I can almost play 720p material, but 1080p is a lost cause.
However when I fire Boxee up on it I can playback 1080p+DTS MKVs without any issue at all.
I've seen on a few of the Mini HTPC forums that the current codec included with Perian isn't multi-threaded and will only run on one core. This would make sense for the stuttering QuickTime playback as with Boxee I can see that it consumes 150-175% of CPU time to decode and play.
Really? What airline? In the US at least as long as you are in airplane mode you should be fine.
Every now and then you will get a flight attendant that makes up their own rules on this stuff and that is annoying, but in 120K of miles this year I've only had that happen once.
This year in the middle of NC we have more acorns than I have ever seen in my life. So many that I had to clear my driveway as it was difficult to drive in and out.
We've had news stories about how many freaking acorns there are this year in the area.
I live in Winston-Salem and saw the story on WXII's page earlier this week. My wife told me last year that she had seen some WTF tags and I didn't think it was true.
Then I saw one picking the kids up at school one day and I told my co-workers about it. They didn't believe me either until I took a picture of one.
They should replace them with LOL plates. My favorite parts of TFA are that the DMV were alerted by a 60-year old "technology teacher" who had to be informed by her granddaughter what WTF meant and that the DMV realized they had a WTF tag on their webpage, but couldn't figure out how to remove the image. Classic.gov!
IIRC, BA seats first exactly like this. The back fills up, they call first, you sit down, and the plane takes off.
I fly a lot and I get the bump to first probably 95% of the time since I have status. Sitting down first is nice because you don't stand around in the long line, you can get comfy, get a drink, and get some work done.
The iPod Touch and iPhone don't just mount as a volume the way the older iPods did.
Google returns several ways to get Amarok to sync with an iPod Touch.
Honestly, who shuts a computer down anymore? Even if you do, is starting it back up in the morning such a huge drain?
I just let mine go to sleep...

OK, but a Mac built from an Apple logic board is a different matter than some generic x68 based system.
My grandfather used to say that you could be killed or killed dead.
Just "killed" and you might come back. "Killed dead" was it though.
No you didn't. Panther was PPC only. Apple never sold a box copy of Tiger desktop for Intel.
The only box copy, desktop OS, that Apple has sold for Intel is Leopard.
Only the very earliest Macs had TPM chips, and they were never used.
The binary protection in Mac OS X comes from the SCM hardware, not TPM.

Well you just hold it in front of a mirror...
Transgaming's Cider libraries run on the iPhone now. That's how Puzzle Quest is being released on the iPhone...
Well just remember to de-authorize the computer before you turn it in.
If you forget you can just de-authorize them all on apple.com
No, but Soylent Green is.
Well that just sucks. I would loose my mind without my iPhone for music and movies in the air.
At least I can count one way in which the US airline experience is better now.

Hmmmm... I can't get that form to work.
Should I just e-mail you my info so you can check it for me?
We seem to be reading a lot of Skynet related posts these days.
I better get the drapes for the bunker finished!
I think that's exactly what Skynet wants...

There is even a good podcast that goes along with the creation of this strip...
Pshaw! All 1337 sysadmins just live as root!
Ahem...
The Saturn wasn't a noticeable change from the Genesis? I'm assuming you are talking about the SegaCD and 32X here.
FWIW, Sonic CD is pretty awesome.
Well this also shows the difference between stage rally and rally raid. Stage rally like the WRC and Pro Rally are all car based.
Rally Raid, which often takes place without roads at all, is much more open to bigger vehicles.
Obviously the cake is in the box.
