15 July 1996: Microsoft and NBC form MSNBC. 31 Aug 2007: NBC pulls all content from iTunes Store. 6 May 2008: NBC puts content on Zune Store. Now: NBC has Microsoft block Windows Media Center from recording certain shows.
* Set your desktop background to something like penguins or polar bears * Install a screensaver with air conditioning capability. * Set your beer on top of the case so the cold will seep down into the computer. * Type slower as fast typing causes heat friction. Also avoid CAPS and waving the mouse pointer around too much. * Use a lighter color scheme on the desktop instead of dark as dark colors absorb light and generate heat.
There is an equation that will calculate the amount of capable file system developers among the millions of Linux users out there. It is called the ManDrake (ManDriva?) equation:
N = R* x fp x nc x fl x fi x fc x L
Where:
N = the number of Linux users capable of creating a file system. R* = is the average number of Linux users who know how to code. fp = is the fraction of those users who understand the technical details of file systems. nc = is the average number of Linux users who potentially have free time to develop code. fl = is the fraction of those users who actually go on to develop at some point. fi = is the fraction of those users who actually go on to develop intelligent code. fc = is the fraction of those users who actually release detectable signs of intelligent code onto the Internet. L = is the length of time those users release code on the Internet before they are locked up in jail for various reasons.
This is why I got rid of my PC. I got burned for a $400 nVidia 6800GT when Doom 3 came out. That experience made me willing to take the iMac plunge and I haven't regretted it since. I've added RAM and I've added an external firewire drive and going on almost 2 years now I'm still happy with it.
With this hardware I can run any OS any other Intel PC can in addition to Mac OS X.
Please provide an example of Apple 'ignoring well documented bugs/security holes.'
Quicktime by definition is not malware (software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent). If it annoys you that is merely your personal opinion. I personally find Windows Media Player repulsive due to it having one of the worst UI designs of software of any decade.
Again with the excuses about 'multiiple hardware configurations that Apple doesn't have to worry about'.
Microsoft does operate a Winlogo program. You know, the 'Certified for Windows Vista' stickers you see on every box at Best Buy and Newegg? If Microsoft isn't operating that with the same 'iron fist' that Apple is, would you say that the Winlogo program is nothing but a marketing scheme to spread the Windows logo on every box in the store?
And enough with the 'wait until SP2' or 'this happened with XP too' excuses. XP came 2 years after Windows 2000. Vista has been in development more than twice that amount of time.
It's not a mistake, it's politically oriented. The same people who cry foul for "bringing politics into the games" are the same people who picked China to host merely for political reasons. The Olympic committee is among the most corrupt in the world.
There's many, many companies out there running important financial machines on a certain large software vendor's OS without proper group policies or even passwords. Still! Whole networks with unpatched NT machines with blank superuser passwords. These companies will be struggling to become Sarbanes-Oxley compliant for years to come.

What other wonderful developments can we expect?
Hello Ballmer.
It does?
Because Microsoft will be able to leverage their Internet Explorer monopoly to force Flash out with Spotlight.
This is a continuation of them leveraging Windows to force Netscape out with Internet Explorer. The action that landed them in trouble with the DOJ.
Well, Wikipedia does try to stay current and Vista has been the current version of Windows for almost a year and a half.
I only found the hot girl.
"1. Most/all are in big cities. No thanks. 1-2 hour commutes to travel 30 miles? Meh. Give me a less-comfortable area in some non-generic suburbs."
:)
Get your company to set you up with a bus pass. I commute to downtown Kansas City from the suburbs and it's glorious with an iPod.
3,295,742 Mac fans switched back over to Windows, even though Windows is just as shitty.
Now there's a Vista-like ringing endorsement intended as impartiality.
If you're talking about peripherals I'm not so sure about beating out OS X.

That hurts my feelings.
I think I'll go wallow in a pile of old Compaq Presarios to make myself feel better.
"Would you buy a Metallica online album despite their former views?"
Yes. I support people learning from their mistakes and willing to correct them.
It has never occurred to me until your post that Macs may be resisted in the enterprise due to job security.
Somewhere the Maytag man is yawning.

Could you please provide some examples of this 'locked down' characteristic you describe?
As a Mac user I would like to know.
New news is almost extinct.

I hear it's not a bad place to dump off unnecessary thing.
No, there are so few Mac games because DirectX doesn't run on Mac OS X.
No RSS feeds on the site. Does the 'Plone Open Source Content Management System' not feature RSS or did NASA decide to disable it?
Then why has Yahoo's LaunchCAST page been IE only for more than 5 years now?
