Yeah, the embedded market isn't as sexy as the processor market, but there is huge volume potential.

A server room perhaps, they are generally kept very clean.

However, it usually sits next to a room full of cables, and the telco plant. This is flammable. Look at the pictures, very heavy black smoke, so this is very likely.

An old cable plant has lots of PVC and other cables that are not fire resistant the way modern Teflon is, and that will still burn, if it is hot enough.

I'll agree here, and point out that disaster recovery is probably the best place to start. Given that a NOC almost by definition is always doing disaster recovery, if not yours, then someone else.

A huge part of disaster planning is organizational, and planning, and documentation of the business practices, which will also apply to you.

If you draw up a plan for every class of disaster you and your clients may have, then the lawyers will have something to work for.

  9. Handle as a temporary problem on ISP Sued Over Suspended Email Account · · Score: 3, Interesting

Rather than suspending the account, an account in a billing dispute should return the temporary condition of "disk full", for which a standard MTA will back off and retry.

Since the condition of being out of space, or some other transient condition, isn't un-common, it won't be viewed as a problem, like this case was.

And semi-intelligent MTA's can notify the sender, that their email is being delayed, so that they can check via alternative means like voice. An ISP that notified the intended receipient would be great, and best done once when the account is flipped to "temporarily unavailable".

A problem that is resolved in a few hours would be transparent to the end users, other than the delay.

Why do I have this feeling that Friday's story will be how the movie companies are throwing money Microsoft's way, and that MS now thinks that encrypting the video isn't so bad after all.

Call me cynical, but this sounds like MS trying to get leverage on the movie industry, rather than helping the consumer.
