I'm not sure this is how pecking birds work but if it isn't there is probably a pecking bird geek in the crowd who will correct me.

Well, as a matter of fact, they need to dip into water.

Typically, older birds are filled with freon-11, or most modern ones with methylene chloride, in a liquid/vapor mix. They operate mainly by having the water soaking their heads evaporate. This changes the temperature of the refrigerant, causing it to change density (some turns from vapor to liquid) and alter the balance of the bird. Without a water supply to replenish the system, it would soon no longer be able to "peck" at the submit key.

It's basically a heat engine, and you've removed the temperature differential.

To play devil's advocate here, a tiger represents millions of years of predatory evolution, yet we can still hunt it to extinction. Just because nature's been doing this a lot longer then we have doesn't mean its aims are the same as ours.

When you're talking about evolution on the scale of millions of years, there's a selective pressure not to kill everything else around you. GE crops have no such incentive, and could quite possibly be extremely hard on the soil. Planting crops without regard to the needs of the soil is what led to the dust bowl.

Of course, it's more than likely anything we create will be able to perform its intended function fairly well, but be utterly unable to cope with any other situation and quickly die out. I don't imagine we'd create anything highly adaptable, that's nature's thing.

I know this is a terrible thing to say, but you may find that you'd enjoy Anime. Anime typically has a consistent, overarching storyline. A lot of it really is trash, like most TV, so watch out. Try Samurai Champloo or FLCL for good starters. Cowboy Bebop is also quite good, but shows its age.

Well, when I watched 100 MB movies (sized for Zip disks, I guess) from DALnet in the mid 90's, the better quality stuff was actually pushing my old system. By the mid 00's, the quality of movies had risen to the point where I doubt they'd play at all on my old system. Now, with 19 GB BD quality flicks out there, my 3 year old AMD 64X2 4200+ is already dropping frames, even with a Radeon 4800 series.

I really don't expect this practically exponential increase to just magically level off in the next few years, especially with 3D features coming out these days.
