    i RTFA and it says that the passwords *were* salted and hashed. So apparently the hackers got users' email addresses and the password hash.

    Still, if your website was hacked and people found out about it, it makes sense to tell people to change their password.

    no, the decentralized nature of iMessage is not to the feds' liking. If they could somehow push the public into using a certain platform, they'd choose Facebook messenger.

    Ok they sound plausible. However in all such cases, the zombie apocalypse would be very short lived - the infected humans simply wouldn't be able to survive very long.

    Every few years there seems to be a push to get people to accept these ass-backwards computers. Apparently the software companies love the concept of users being held captive to them and requiring their permission just to run the simplest application. "Renting" software on a per usage basis is like their wettest dream.

    I remember back in the day, Oracle was pushing these "Net Computers" or NCs as being the future. Nobody needs to run software from their own hard drive, you can just get everything from the Net! Except for the fact people's hard drives were 4 orders of magnitude faster than their internet connection (and will continue to be so for any foreseeable future). Nobody ended up buying this shit and it went into the dustbin of history.

    But looks like they're trying it again, except now it's been renamed "cloud computing".

    When IT and computer/internet field in general settle down and become mature, things will get better.

    Right now there's just too many new technolgies and buzzwords and platforms and architecture and paradigms popping up, and pointy-haired managers and VPs all want to implement this and that and oh by the way make it work with our legacy system and nothing better get lost or you're fired.

    Is it Atheist brand like they claim, or is it just the effect of displaying the content of the box? After all, a plain brown box is less likely to be stolen than one that says it has pricey new shoes in it.

    A better test would be to have, as the control, boxes that say "Nike Air Jordans" (or whatever the closest competitor) and see if Atheist shoes get lost more than the Nikes.

    electric cars only suck because our battery technology sucks. But there's nothing in the laws of physics that says you can't make batteries that don't suck.

    (triple negative... yikes)

    Somebody's gonna come up with a new battery that exploits quantum effects and raises energy density by 10x. The world will be theirs.

    Hell, just yesterday I saw a Slashdot article about Lockeed Martin coming up with a new nano-material that decreases water desalinization energy requirement by 100x. We're just scratching the surface when it comes to nano-sized materials and quantum effects (which are related to nano stuff cuz they only happen at very small scales)

    Doesn't matter, the audiophile market is not rational (kind of like the wine market). After a certain quality threshold, say 256kbps mp3 or $100 bottle of wine, nobody can tell the difference in a blind test. Yet suckers keep paying money for $500 speaker cables and $1000 bottles of wine. Just stoking ego at that point.
