  1. Re:Improved human rights - executions down 40%. on Tech Workers in Higher Demand · · Score: 5, Insightful

I realize thinking is not a pre-requisit to posting. However, realize that job cuts are a fact of life. Period. Even in the best of markets, some company is cutting jobs.

And even in the worst markets, some company somewhere is hiring.

Basically, this means that the hole in the bottom of the bucket is smaller. And, if you follow other news, you will realize that hiring has picked up.

So, yes, a decrease in job cuts is good news. Your market may vary.

Next time put a warning message on posts like this. I got to this part and nearly freaked out. Social contact? Typing with others in the room with me?"camaraderie"? I was afraid if I kept reading, you might mention talking to people and maybe making eye contact with a girl.

Too much for me to take on a Saturday morning, sorry.

Avoid SQL injection by not relying on dynamic SQL queries. Use Stored Procedures, and you avoid a lot of risks. Users do not even need rights to underlying tables. If you insist on dynamically generating SQL based on user input, then triple check everything and pray a lot.

  19. Practical Experience on Tips for Independent Learning? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I find the best way to learn is to have a real life project you are working on. Their are too many people in the world with "paper certifications". That is, they can pass a test, but could not do anything with that knowledge in a practical way.

I am in the process of studying for certifications. Three tests I was ale to pass with mostly work experience. One, I really needed to study... I found excuses to introduce some of the topics into my work. It helped a lot.

You, likely, are not working in the industry yet. Find a way to work on a real project. It might be one you dream up. It might be working cheap at a local company. I don't really know enough specifics to advise. I'll just say that dreaming up your own project requires a lot of motivation to continue to work on.

But bottom line, you need to be applying, or it is just book knowledge.

You are right. There is no way to force the issue. However, I believe with majority ownership, a plan could have been put into place to give the other owners to have the right to buy at fair market value. The heirs would have received cash if Bill and company could pony up.

I think that simply having the majority voting rights would have enabled them to get this type of rule passed, but I am not 100% positive.
