I am not sure my facts are straight, and would like someone to clarify.
The U.S. is part of several trade organizations. These organizations generally frown on the government helping a business out like this, right? We have wide open trade with China. The Chinese government tilts the field in their business' favor by manipulating the currency, and directly funding projects like this.
Gmail was kept in beta for an exceptionally long period of time
Nope, it still is in Beta. Try again.
having beta software that's imperfect is not a reason to immediately dismiss a company's development abilities.
Again, try again. I never dismissed their abilities. I simply pointed out how the person I replied to waved his hand and dismissed Google development problems as "Just Beta".
And there is no justification for calling Google's stuff Beta. They make it available to anyone. It is in no way limited to who can access. gMail is the perfect example of this. Feedback is a perpetual part of the software cycle. Iterative release.... look it up.
Yup. Call it "beta", and you can get away with anything. Especially after their cool comic book bragged about their advanced testing techniques that put everyone else to shame.
I cannot turn off the damn idle section. I go to preferences, I say I don't want the damn thing, but I cannot save. There must be another section, but I cannot scroll down to see it.
Heck, it is getting to the point where I'd almost rather buy a new keyboard than go through the hassle of cleaning mine. And when I am taking care of family's virus ridden computers, I am always doing the mental calculations and figuring that it would be more expedient to buy them a new PC. Hardware has dropped in price so much, and their capabilities have far exceeded 90% of the population's needs. Consequently companies like Dell are looking to squeeze every last nickle out of it they can.
At first, I thought this was snarky (and it may very well have been meant that way). However, if you could send the probe with a microscope, and a method for having the visual sent back to Earth for a team of analysts, this might not be a horrible idea.
Because they have to start somewhere? It isn't unreasonable to think that most naturally occurring forms of life are based on DNA. Yes, that is an assumption that could be wrong. We have one data point to work from. If our assumption is wrong, we can create different methods of detection other types of life.
My question to you: what kind of machine would you put together that would search for microscopic life forms that are of a type we have yet to imagine? When you answer this, then you can mock the article's approach.
Now, like you, I cannot. I'm not sure what kind of script they are running on their end to determine when to show this, but it is weird. I retract my support for experts-exchange being on Google's search.
Howdy, wish I could reply quicker, but for whatever reason, I am throttled to five minutes between posts. Oddly enough, it seems to occur after I have been upmodded. After a couple down mods, I was able to post every two. odd.
Anyhow, can you show me some links where you DON'T see the responses at the end? I have never had any trouble with using this method. However, this doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. I'd like to figure out what the commonality is.
I refreshed and did not get this behavior. Can you please verify? If so, can you point to a URL that you are testing with and which browser you are using?
Wow. That was rude. You could have at least looked at my other reply to the person who asked how this was done. But, since you couldn't be bothered to do this, I will post it again for you.
When you go to one of these pages through a Google search, simply scroll to the bottom of the page.
For your convenience, here is a sample Google Search. Click the first search result, or if that is to difficult, you can click here.
Now, scroll to the very bottom. I, unfortunately, have no way of doing this automatically for you. However, if you take the effort to do this, you will find that I am, indeed, right.

Why the hell do we put up with this?

It blocks Slashdot? It is a bigger success than I thought!
Does she take your balls out of her purse every once in a while to let you know what they look like? ;)
which renders someone unable to get any at all.
Thank goodness. My next child shall be named after you.

You have issues with sarcasm :) For example.

Suck my Pole, baby!
And that is what is so exciting yet frustrating about this type of thing. We know so very little that we don't even know the right questions to ask.
(much like sex )

I noticed that you did not answer the second part of my post. What kind of process WOULD you use to detect these Non-DNA based life forms?

Why? Did you find a gaping security hole?
Bizarre. The first three times I visited the link, I could. The accepted answer was 'see an example at http://www.emoreau.com/Entries/Articles/2006/04/The-Treeview-control.aspx'.

Scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see another copy of the comments unhidden.
How so? I find lots of good stuff there. You do realize the "hidden comments" are not so hidden, right?
The above is not funny, it is insightful.
I've GOT to show this to our CEO. I will get promoted for sure!
Yes. Just paint it to look like this.
