    The same as our ability to efficiently process and store food in anticipation of several days or scarcity was a survival advantage that is now a disadvantage. Different environments create different requirements.

    More importantly, he lacks the "sarcasm" tag at the end of his post when his tone makes him look completely serious.

    Yes, the GGGP post left off this tag. Is that a requirement of sarcasm? Should "A Modest Proposal" be modded as "troll"? I say the GGGP should me modded funny. Or offtopic. But troll? Not so sure.

    Africa currently lives in perfect communion with one another.
    Russia is a paragon of pacifism.
    And Asians are known for their brotherly love.
    No brutal kidnappings and murder in Mexico.
    And no death squads in South America.

    Face it, humans are fundamentally flawed.

    At least Antarctica is peaceful (but shrinking).

    they embraced Open Source. Weapons. Tools. Technology as a whole. Homo Sapiens stole everything from them, made some improvements and made it Closed Source. Neanderthals had to buy their own inventions back. The competitive disadvantage put them under.

    Currently, if you log off of Slashdot, and go to the front page, you get to see a picture of "Little Hitler", a two year old dressed up to look like Hitler. What in the hell is wrong with Slashdot. There isn't even a story to go with it, just the freaking picture. Posted in the idle section, of course.

    Has the management of Slashdot put their head so far up their ass that they have oxygen deprivation in the brain?

    Oh, please. Making the chair is cool. Driving it on public roads is not so cool. I admit, I chuckled when I saw the picture, but they should have tested it out in an empty parking lot.

    This is slashdot, so it's the Linux version of flip-flopping.

    I didn't realize that Linux was the opposite of PC. In fact, I thought Linux was software. Maybe this is the reason we don't see the year of Linux on the desktop.

    Yeah, just a joke, really.

    I agree with that the metric system is superior than imperial. However, this is simply because of the base 10 conversions.

    When someone turns their nose up to Celsius vs. Fahrenheit, they are just being snobbish. There is nothing intrinsically better about either system. The freezing point of water isn't even remotely close to a universal standard, but both do well at conveying the idea of whether to wear a jacket or not outside.

    But don't you realize the having a decimal system based around the temperature of water freezing and boiling at a very specific atmospheric pressure makes the most sense? I mean CLEARLY that is better than the Fahrenheit scale which ignores this. And all those goofy fractions. Do you really like 32 9/16 degrees? Or would you rather have 0.3125 Celsius?

    Clearly the Celsius scale is superior.

    And, technically, his use of "loosing" works in the sentence. It is certainly not what he intended, but it also works in a bizarre, funny way.

    Seriously. I saw an AC make the same comment first. I wrote it off as a troll attempt. Then I see three logged in users making the same point. I was about to make a reasoned retort, but couldn't get past the "How Fricking Stupid Do You Have to Be!?!?" shock. Very similar when I have to explain something technical to the COO.

    If this were a politically oriented web site, I could see this being posted, but not on the front page. It would be buried under a dozen or so more relevant.

    This is Slashdot. It is tech oriented. I understand politics are important, but the slant has always been how politics will impact our IT related issues. So net neutrality is very relevant. This is not.

    I am absolutely baffled how this got accepted as a story.

    f all your cards are out in the open, you might not have the intel advantage, but you also don't have to worry about how much China or Russia knows. You can safely assume they know everything, and you can concentrate on beating them with pure skill and ingenuity. If you can't, then you deserve to fail.

    Tell ya what. I will play a game of poker with you under these rules. You always show me your cards, and I will keep mine hidden. I admin I am a total n00b at poker.

    I betcha, somehow, I will manage to win despite all of your skill.
