As an avid user of Slackware 3.6 (Current) I am so happy to see 4.0 finally released. I'm going to have to download it and check it out, but the things I have read so far have been promising. I've run Slackware 96, Slackware 3.5, and Slackware 3.6, and I've been nothing but happy with them. Hope to see the same for 4.0.
P.S.: Just seeing "Slackware 4.0" gave me a hard on.:P
You f*cking moderaters need to Grab a CLUE. This post was ON TOPIC, and Didn't insult anyone, nor was it in bad taste. Good lord, it's not like I'm trying to get "FIRST POST!"
Grab a Clue, a Life, a Coke and a Smile, and moderate the REAL trash. Start being a little more reasonable with your moderation powers.
The following is a list of items I would be grateful for you sending me:
A.) A box from VA. B.) A Parallel system or two. C.) Some Slashdot Tee Shirts. D.) A Copy of RedHat 6.0 (I'd rather not pay $80) E.) One of those Turbo Linux models. F.) One of the Patmos Leather Couches (To go along with the Model, of course!)
I like the idea of a submersible laptop. I would buy one just to use in my pool. Think about it! grab an oxygen tank, some goggles, a laptop, and go Scuba Diving High-Tech! The idea of being able to pund the crap out of it to no avail is good too. (How many times has YOUR laptop pissed you off enough that you want to throw it across the room? NOW YOU CAN!)
I don't know why I was moderated down, but I think some moderaters need to grab a clue. I didn't say anything off-topic, or inflamatory. I had a perfectly valid comment, and 3 perfectly valid replies. Wake up people.
While I'm not too familiar with the Palm Pilot, Isn't it a bit late for them to FINALLY come out with one that does internet? Windows CE devices did that from day 1.
Recognition is always a good thing. If anyone is deserving of this, it's certainly Linus. Not only is he brilliant, has a good sense of humor, and has incredible programming skill, He was nice enough to give Linux to us. Bravo!
P.S.: "Dr. Linus Torvalds." I think that sounds cool.
Whatever happened to a media outlet checking in to a story before blurting it out to the general public? And considering that the majority of late-night news viewers are adults age 35 and older, a lot of people could have been *snicker* fooled by this. Personally, I feel that anyone using AOL deserves to get e-mails like this (Look who you signed up with), I DON'T think people deserve to be slammed by a local news station with a story this absurd.
She used the word "frantically" again later in her report, suggesting she had a telepathic grasp of happenings inside AOL's headquarters...
Considering that the AOL HQ was closed, this was an amazing assumption. And typical of news media, "if there is the Slightest degree of believablilty to a story, RUN WITH IT. Gaps? Just make something up."
I work for one of the aforementioned computer stores, and I was THRILLED to see SuSE 6.1 on the shelf. While I'm not a Red Hat fan, it's nice to see it on the shelf alongside SuSE and Caldera OpenLinux 2.2. My retail manager says that Linux "isn't a big push", but I hope it kicks up soon. I'd like to set up an in-store Linux Demo machine.
The way I see it, is that this company or whatever they are, deciced to concoct a fake $5 deal (I KNEW they wouldn't be able to afford it. THINK ABOUT IT!) so people would e-mail them. In turn, they'll get about 5 billion extra e-mail addresses, Close up shop, vanish from sight, and sell the lists.
Then again, I could be wrong, but we'll see what happens.
This is an excellent idea, however, given the incredible amounts of spam that are pouring into e-mail accounts, it makes you wonder how long they'll be able to afford these $5 credits to CDNow. Nevertheless, it gives people an incentive to forward crap e-mail, and get something out of it. (As if prosecuting the assholes that spam you wasn't incentive enough, now you get 5 bucks out of it too!:)
I've noticed that many of the spam-mail I get comes with a bogus REMOVE tag, that is, when you try to remove yourself from the mailing list, you get a Mailer Daemon error message, saying that it was undeliverable because it couldn't find a host. I'm curious to see how these "spoofed" mailings will be investigated.
Are you getting those lame "Affordable Dental & Optical Plan" E-mails? Those damn mailings are so annoying. And whenever you try to remove, it never works.
Interesting. I may just buy one to port Linux to it. If it has a computer interface cable, and some decent AI, I'll have that pooch compiling new kernels FOR me. That being the case, there had better be Linux driver support for this thing FOR the interface cable (if there is one. If it was Standalone, it would suck.)
Does anyone know the ABSOLUTE BARE system requirements to run Q3, and also, I'd like the average system req's and the Recommended ones. I'd really appriciate it.
That's not a bad idea. If slashdot puts together it's own distribution, they could A) make it inexpensive (especially to slashdot readers) and B) let Rob and Hemos use the profits to improve slashdot, and maybe Eat once in a while.:P
P.S.: Just seeing "Slackware 4.0" gave me a hard on.

I'd like to enjoy reading SOMETHING that has absolutely NOTHING to do with Star Wars once in a while! Please! Let it GO!
Jeez people, Enough Hype!
